Saying

Translation of the saying:

Abdullah ibn Muhammad al-Balkhi informed us, he said: I heard Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani say: “Whoever considers God to be One in the creation, provision of sustenance, and management and bears witness that the Prophet is true, he is a Muslim but not a believer until he acknowledges that God is also One in judgment and dominion and has no partner, (in the sense that) none but He makes a ruling or sends a ruler, so if he does not know this, he is misguided, and if he denies it, he is a polytheist.”

Translation of the saying:

Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Harawi informed us, he said: I heard Mansoor say: “Whoever acknowledges that God is his Creator and Provider (of sustenance) and Muhammad is God’s Prophet and the last of the Prophets, he has embraced Islam, but he will not believe until he acknowledges that forbidden is what God has made forbidden and there is no forbidden other than it, and the Imam is one whom God has appointed as Imam and there is no Imam other than him, so if he does not know these two, he has gone far astray, and if he is invited toward those two and then denies them, he has become a polytheist.”

Translation of the saying:

Zakir ibn Ma‘roof al-Khorasani informed us, he said: Mansoor said: “Whoever bears witness that there is no god but Allah, Muhammad is His servant and Prophet, Heaven is true, Hell is true, the Day of Judgment will come and there is no doubt in it, and prayer, Zakat, fasting, Hajj, and jihad are divine obligations, he is a Muslim and his life and wealth are protected except (in cases dictated) by the truth, but he is not a believer until he bears witness that there is no ruling other than what God has sent down and there is no ruler other than the one whom God has chosen through a miracle from Himself or a will from His Prophet, so if he does not know this, he has gone astray and incurred loss, and if he is informed about it and refuses (to accept) it, then he has nothing to do with God, and they are indeed disbelievers.”

Translation of the saying:

Hasan ibn Qasim al-Tehrani informed us, he said: I asked Mansoor about the words of God Almighty Who says: “And most of them do not believe in God unless they associate (others with Him),” so he said: “They believe that God is their Creator and Provider (of sustenance), but they associate others with Him in dominion, so they choose imams and rulers whom God has not appointed with their names and the names of their fathers, and they associate others with Him in legislation, so they adopt laws and rulings that God has not sent down in the Book or the Sunnah of a Prophet, so they believe in God while they are polytheists.”

Translation of the saying:

Salih ibn Muhammad al-Sabzawari informed us, he said: I asked Mansoor about the words of God Almighty Who says: “And if you obey them, you will indeed be polytheists,” so he said: “This is polytheism in obedience,” then he said: “Whoever obeys other than the one whom God has commanded to be obeyed, he is indeed a polytheist, and whoever judges by other than what God has sent down, he is indeed a polytheist, and whoever believes in a provider (of sustenance) or a creator other than God, he is indeed a polytheist.”

Translation of the saying:

Salih ibn Muhammad al-Sabzawari informed us, he said: I asked Mansoor about the words of God Almighty Who says: “Or they have partners who legislate for them as religion what God has not permitted,” so he said: “This is polytheism in legislation. They take leaders and deputies, so they make for them laws and rulings that do not exist in the Book of God or the Sunnah of His Prophet.” Then he said: “Whoever takes any legislator other than God is a polytheist, and whoever takes any creator other than God is a polytheist.”

Translation of the saying:

Walid ibn Mahmud al-Sajistani informed us, he said: I asked Mansoor about the words of God Almighty Who says: “And indeed, We sent a Prophet to every nation, (saying:) ‘Worship God and avoid taghut,’” so he said: “They invited toward those two because some people worship God but do not avoid taghut.” I said: “How can this be, may I be sacrificed for you?!” He said: “They perform prayer for God and offer sacrifices to Him, but they choose a ruler who disobeys God, so they obey him in his commands.” Then he recited this verse: “Did you not see those who were given a portion of the Book that they would believe in jibt and taghut?!” Then he said: “Believing that God is the Creator and the Provider (of sustenance) is a portion of the Book, and any legislator other than God is jibt, and any ruler other than God is taghut.”

Translation of the saying:

Abdullah ibn Habib al-Tabari informed us, he said: I asked Mansoor about the words of God Almighty Who says: “Or like darknesses in a deep sea covered by a wave, over which is another wave and above which is a cloud, darknesses that some are above some others,” so he said: “It is the human being’s associating others with God. He pledges allegiance to a ruler whom God has not commanded to pledge allegiance to, so it is a wave that covers him, and he is satisfied with a ruling that God has not sent down, so it is a wave above another wave, and he believes in a creator or a provider (of sustenance) other than God, so it is a cloud above the two waves, ‘darknesses that some are above some others. When he stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it, and anyone to whom God does not grant a light, there is no light for him.’

Translation of the saying:

Ahmad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Taloqani informed us, he said: I asked Mansoor about some of the people of Qiblah who passed away before entering this affair[9], so he said: “Whoever of them passed away while what God has sent down about judgment and dominion was not explained to him, his affair rests with God, if He wills, He punishes him, and if He wills, He forgives him, and whoever passed away after the declaration was brought to him while he was a denier or doubted, he has gone to Hell and will remain there forever, and no compensation is accepted from him, nor does intercession benefit him, and they will not be helped.” I said: “May God set your affairs straight! What has God sent down about those two (i.e. judgment and dominion)?” He said: “He has sent down that He alone shall judge and none shall violate his ruling, and He gives the dominion to whomever He wills, people have no choice in judgment or dominion, ‘Glorified and Exalted is God above what they associate with Him.’

Translation of the saying:

Hashim ibn Ubaid al-Khujandi informed us, he said: I said to Mansoor: “Sometimes I see among people one who fears God and desires to do every good, except that he does not know God’s Caliph on the earth, or he knows him but does not believe in what we believe about preparing the ground for his advent.” So Mansoor sat up straight while he was reclining earlier, then he said: “Know this, O Hashim! If a servant lives as long as Nuh lived among his people while he performs prayer nights, fasts on days, and then is slaughtered unjustly as a sheep is slaughtered, but does not make God’s Caliph on the earth the ruler, he is not a believer, and this is the words of God that has said to His Caliph: ‘No, by your Lord, they are not believers until they make you the ruler.’” I said: “May I be sacrificed for you, is such a person a disbeliever?” He said: “He is not a disbeliever until he makes a denial.” I said: “What is it to make a denial?” He said: “For him to deny after it was explained to him.” I said: “So if he makes a denial, is he a disbeliever?” He said: “Yes, a polytheist disbeliever.”

Translation of the saying:

Isa ibn Abd al-Hamid al-Jowzjani informed us, he said: I heard Mansoor say: “Indeed, those who face this Qiblah are three: one who has heard and accepted my invitation toward the Oneness of God in legislation and dominion and turned away from ungodly lawmakers and rulers, so he is a believer, and one who has heard it but not accepted it, so he is a hypocrite, and one who has not heard it, nor is he aware of this (fact), so he is a misguided Muslim until he hears it or dies.” I said: “May I be sacrificed for you, is he not a deprived person?” He said: “If he always lives in the mountains and valleys, he is a deprived person, but if he comes to the markets and associates with people and notices disagreements, he is not a deprived person.” Then he raised his voice and called out: “Be aware that my invitation is indeed a declaration, so do not say on the Day of Judgment, ‘O Lord! No declarations were brought to us’!”

Translation of the saying:

Abu Ibrahim al-Samarqandi informed us, he said: I was with Mansoor on one of the days when the deadly disease[15] had spread (among people), then a man who had covered his mouth came to him and said: “I swear to God, people were always in a normal situation until you invited them toward God’s judgment and dominion and they turned a deaf ear to your invitation, so every day a new disaster is sent down on them!” So he said: “People were given time until my call had not reached them, so when my call reached them and they did not accept it, their time was cut off and what they were being promised happened to them. Be aware that it will always – day by day – become more severe on them until they accept (it) or perish like Aad and Thamud.” Then he paused for a moment and then said: “This is in the Book of God.” The man said: “Where is it? May God set your affairs straight.” He said: “Have you not heard the words of God Almighty Who has said: ‘And God never considers a people deviant after He has guided them until He makes clear to them what they must avoid (and they do not avoid it),’ and said: ‘And We never destroy any town unless there are warners for it, as a source of reminder, and We do no wrong,’ and said: ‘And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before this, they would have said: O Lord! Why did you not send to us a Messenger so that we might have followed Your signs before we were humiliated and disgraced?’” The man said: “You spoke the truth, may I be sacrificed for you!” Then Mansoor turned toward me and said: “Do not invite toward this matter one you have no hope of his accepting; because when a man is invited toward it and does not accept it, he goes out of the protection of God.” I said: “May God set your affairs straight, do you feel sorry for one we have no hope of his accepting? Let God take his soul to Hell sooner!” Then he fell silent until I saw the anger on his face, so I said: “We will surely not invite him!” Then he said: “Whether you invite or not, I swear to God, my invitation will always spread among them from one house to another and from one land to another until camel herders in the deserts and fishermen in the seas also hear it, ‘And indeed, God will surely make known the believers, and indeed, He will surely make known the hypocrites.’
