Saying

Translation of the saying:

Zakir ibn Ma‘roof informed us, he said: I gifted Mansoor a modern device for his convenience, but he did not accept it and said: “Indeed, I do not need it.” Then he said: “Indeed, I do not like many of these devices that you have created in the life of the world.” I said: “Why, May I be sacrificed for you?” He said: “Because they are plays, amusements, adornments, and boasting among you and the multiplication in wealth, and they bring you convenience but rob you of something great.”

Translation of the saying:

Abdullah ibn Habib and Abd al-Salam ibn Abd al-Qayyum both informed us, they said: Mansoor would hate touching money with his hand as if he would consider it impure, so he would say to his companions: “Take it,” and he would not watch television except in cases of necessity, nor would he ever carry a cell phone, and the thing he would hate the most was the Internet, so we said to him: “Are these things forbidden?” So he said: “No, but I find cruelty from them, so I avoid them.”

Explanation of the saying:

It is hereby understood that the use of cell phones, the Internet, radio, television, equipment for communicating with satellites, and other modern devices does not have a religious ruling in and of itself, and its ruling follows the ruling of what is seen, heard, or done through them. However, it is better to limit the use of these devices to cases of necessity; because today, their production and distribution are often done within the framework of capitalism and colonial goals and are from the most important sources of income for the people of power and capital and ways of spreading their culture and prompting people to think and do according to their desires and malicious policies. Therefore, His Excellency Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani, may God protect him, hates the use of such devices by those who do not have an urgent need for them, and he himself avoids them as much as possible as a matter of scruples, without forbidding them in a fossilized manner.
