Saying

Translation of the saying:

One of our companions informed us, he said: I went to Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani on a night, then I found him alone, looking out the window at the stars of the sky. Then I said: “May I be sacrificed for you, what are you thinking about?!” So without turning his eyes away from the stars of the sky, he said:

O so and so! Amid this era, in this time when the sun of religion is hidden behind dark clouds, God has servants that He is always in their hearts. They light a lamp in the eyes of people from the light of vigilance, remind people of the days of God, and inform them of the exemplary fate of those who passed. They are like guides in horrible and unmarked desserts. They give glad tidings to those who joined the truth and warn those who turned to falsehood. Yes, in the outskirts of this vast earth, there are people for God who have chosen the remembrance of God over the concerns of the world, and trading does not keep them from performing prayer at the beginning of its time. They spend day and night worshipping God and convey His warnings to the heedless. They invite others toward justice and act upon it themselves before them. They have detached their hearts from the world and joined the Highest Assembly. It is as if they have left this world behind and embarked on the journey to the Hereafter, or they are still in the world and have seen what lies behind the veil. It is as if they have gained insight into the hidden state of the people of Barzakh and spent a while in it. It is as if the Day of Judgment has shown them its horrible face, or the scorching fire of Hell has surrounded them. It is as if they see secrets that others do not see and hear things that people do not hear.

Then he looked at me, let out a sigh, and continued with tears falling from his eyes:

O so and so! If you find them and see their lofty ranks, how they have spread their book of deeds and are ready for the Reckoning; they reflect on how many great and small deeds they were commanded to do but failed to do, and how many deeds they were forbidden to do but committed! They feel the weight of their sins, have become unable to bear it, and have collapsed on their knees, weeping and writhing as if in pain. Many nights they are unable to sleep, so they sit in a dark and lonely corner, hugging their knees and contemplating! Sometimes they rise to perform prayer, sometimes they prostrate themselves, and sometimes they gaze at the sky with eyes overflowing with tears, as if searching for something among its stars. If the veil were lifted from your eyes, you would see that the Angels have descended upon them and surrounded them, the doors of the sky have been opened for them, and Gardens of Bliss have been prepared for them.

Ah, how I long for them! They are surely my brothers whom time has separated from me, and place has stood between me and them, but soon they will hear my call, like the whistling of the owner of pigeons, and rush to me from the outskirts of this earth to accompany me on the path that I have taken and help me achieve the goal that I have aimed for. Then you will find them as firm companions and loyal allies to me; they carry my knowledge, safeguard it from theft, unleash its springs, and compete to act upon it; because they possess keen eyes and attentive ears and know the value of the scholar. They are neither foolish nor foul-mouthed nor feeble nor impatient. Doubt does not approach them, nor does negative thought overtake them. They treat each other mercifully and get along with each other. God has praised them with this pleasing attribute and saved them for this blessed matter. They are like sifting seeds and rain clouds that have come together from here and there. Now, if you have a question, ask.

I said: “May I be sacrificed for you, teach me a du‘a to make in this time full of trials.” So he said:

Say in the morning and evening: «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ، وَمِنْ تَحْوِيلِ عَافِيَتِكَ، وَمِنْ فُجَاءَةِ نَقِمَتِكَ، وَمِنْ دَرَكِ الشَّقَاءِ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا قُدِّرَ وَقُضِيَ.

Explanation of the saying:

The meaning of the du‘a that this great man of the time, His Excellency Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani, taught to one of his companions and disciples is: “O God! I seek refuge with You from the removal of Your blessings, the change in well-being bestowed by You, the suddenness of Your punishment, the approaching of misfortune, and the evil of what has been destined and decided! O God! I plead before you, by the glory of Your dominion, the intensity of Your might, the greatness of Your authority, and the power You have over Your creation, to send peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and to protect me against the darkening, misleading trial that Satan and his party send toward me and the false messiah sends toward me!”
