Translation of the saying:
Walid bin Mahmoud Sajestani informed us and said: I wrote a letter to his honor Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani and asked him about the things that people do in mourning for the family of the Prophet peace be upon him and his family, so he wrote to me: There is nothing wrong with remembering the Ahl al-Bayt of the Prophet peace be upon him and his family and describing their deeds and praising them with truth, and lying about them and slandering them is definitely forbidden, and there is nothing wrong with crying over their sufferings and composing poetry for them when it is true, but it is Makruh to hit the head, face, chest and back in a way that the majority do; because of what the Messenger of God peace be upon him and his family said: “One who hits their face and tears their clothing and calls for ignorance, this person is not one of us” and his Excellency peace be upon him and his family also said: “I hate anyone who pull their hair and weep and tear their clothing” and the only appropriate act is crying and beyond that is not legitimate; because of what the Messenger of God peace be upon him and his family said: “Everything that comes from the eyes and from the heart is from God Almighty and from mercy, and everything that comes from the hand and the tongue is from the devil” and this applies to marching on the ground with invented flags and signs; because all of them are Bid’ah, and every Bid’ah is misguidance, and every misguidance leads to fire, and there is no problem in gathering in mosques and houses to praise them and to mention their sufferings and cry for them and sympathize with their fans, whenever there is no lie or insult or beating or injury or extravagance or delay in the prayer on the onset of its time, and the Messenger of God peace be upon him and his family, cried over his son Ibrahim and remembered Khadijah peace be upon her and praised her and cried over her and encouraged crying over Hamza may God be please with him, and Fatima peace be upon her cried over the Messenger of God peace be upon him and his family and praised him, and Sa’d ibn Mu’adh may God be pleased with him, was being praised at his grave, while the Messenger of God peace be upon him and his family listened and did not forbid it, therefore all these acts are Sunnah and only Bid’ah is forbidden.
Translation of the saying:
Walid ibn Mahmud informed us and said: I said to Mansour: I informed a group of this Shia about your prohibition of hitting faces and tearing the clothing while mourning for the Ahl al-Bayt, so it became hard on them and they considered (accepting) it to be difficult and they said: Zainab, the daughter of Ali may God be pleased with her, hit her face for her brother’s martyrdom and tore her clothing! He said: They lied about Zainab, Ali’s daughter! Did they not know that her brother made a will to her on the night of Ashura and made her swear that whenever I passed away, do not hit your face and do not tear your clothing because of me?! So did they think that she disobeyed her brother and did not follow his will?! No, I swear by God, but she obeyed him and she was a righteous and pious woman. Then he said: Whoever is familiar with the rightfulness of Hussain then shall not hit his face because of him and shall not tear his clothing and shall follow his will, as Zainab, the daughter of Ali did.
Translation of the saying:
Isa ibn Abd al-Hamid al-Juzajani informed us and said: Some men from the Shia came to his honor and asked him about their actions in the two months of Muharram and Safar, so he said to them: You want me to dance to your tune, but I say nothing but the truth! So remember the master of the youth of Paradise and cry over him and do not hit your head and chest and back because of him; because I swear by God, if he was among you, he would forbid you from doing so, as he forbade his sister Zainab! Then those men left in a rage, so I said to his honor: I wish you would have let them hit their heads to die! Do you not see that they blame you?! He said: Glory be to God! So what about the prohibition of bad?
Translation of the saying:
Abd al-Salam ibn Abd al-Qayyum informed us and said: A man from the Shia came to his honor and said to him: Are you one who averse hitting faces and heads -in mourning for Hussain?! He said: No, but God and His Messenger averse it! The man said: Do you not know that Hussain’s wives ran out when he was killed in that way while hitting their faces?! He said: his Excellency forbade them from doing this! The man said: But they did it! He said: In that case, we will not obey them in their disobedience! The man said: Among them was Zainab, the daughter of Ali! He said: How do you know who were among them you ignorant?! I swear by God, she was more God-fearing than disobeying her brother and hitting her face in front of men! Then he said: (Assuming that it is so) we are not commanded to obey her, but we are commanded to obey Hussain.
Translation of the saying:
Abdullah ibn Muhammad Balkhi informed us and said: Mansoor passed by a group of Shia who were hitting their back with chains, so he said: Who are these people?! We said: These are the people who think that they are Shias of Hussain! He said: They are lying! If they were his Shia, they would have followed him! Do they not know that he forbade acts like this?! We said: For them, there are scholars in Iran who order them to do this! He said: Yes, it is a bad temper that I know from Akhzam!
Explanation of the saying:
His saying “it is a bad temper that I know from Akhzam” is a proverb among the Arabs, and “Akhzam” was the name of a man from Bani Taya, and it means that I am familiar with this extremist and common approach of scholars in Iran.
Translation of the saying:
Abdullah bin Muhammad Balkhi informed us and said: We were on our way with Mansoor, so some Shia men passed us who were hitting their chest and back and saying: Labbayk Ya Hussain! Labbayk Ya Hussain! So he turned to us and said: Know that Hussain has nothing to do with them, just as Jafar ibn Muhammad disavowed them! We said: Did Jafar ibn Muhammad disavow them?! He said: Yes, it came to him that some men from the people of Kufa say: Labbayk Ya Jafar ibn Muhammad Labbayk! So he disavowed them and said: The prophets did not say Labbayk like this! They used to say: “Labbayk Allahuma Labbayk, Labbayk La Sharika Lak”! Then Mansoor said: Know that by God, if it were not for these wicked persons, people would have entered into this matter[1] in groups, but they changed it and made it ugly and hated!
Translation of the saying:
Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Shirazi informed us and said: I said to Mansoor: We gather in houses and remember what happened to Hussain ibn Ali in Karbala. He said: There is no problem. I said: And we compose poems about his Excellency. He said: There is no problem. I said: And we cry over his Excellency. He said: There is no problem. I said: And we curse his killer. He said: There is no problem. I said: And we hit our chest and head. He said: But not this one; because the Messenger of God peace be upon him and his family forbade it. Then he said: Do you not like to do whatever you are ordered to and abandon whatever you are forbidden from, so you would meet Hussain in Paradise?!
Translation of the saying:
Yunus bin Abdullah Khatlani informed us and said: Mansoor came to his companions on the Day of Ashura while they were talking together, so he said to them: May God have mercy on those of you who remember the son of the daughter of their Prophet peace be upon him and his family, so cry for him! Be aware that by God, they killed him while he was inviting them to Paradise, and they were inviting him to the Fire! (Yunus) said: So we gathered around his honor and we remembered Hussain ibn Ali and cried for him, and it was as if I saw Mansoor’s tears flowing on his cheeks without any sound of screaming or shouting that could be heard!
Translation of the saying:
Abdullah Ibn Habib Tabari informed us and said: Mansoor entered a house where a group of Shia were remembering Hussain’s sufferings and crying for him, so he sat among them until their preacher said: I am Hussain’s dog! So when he said this, Mansoor got up and went out while saying: By God, Hussain did not come to them so that they would be dogs! Did they not know that angels do not enter a house where there is a dog in it?! Then he went to another house where a group of Shia were remembering the sufferings of Hussain and crying for him, so he sat among them until they took off their clothing and hit their chest in a single row, so when they did this, Mansoor got up and went out while saying: We will accompany you in Sunnah and we will leave you in Bid’ah!
Translation of the saying:
Abd al-Hamid ibn Bakhtiar informed us and said: Mansoor heard that a man has held a wedding on the Day of Ashura, so he said: Uff Uff! Does he not know that this is the day when God became angry with the people of the Earth?! I swear by God, if his son had been killed on this day, he would not have held a wedding in it, but on this day, the son of the Messenger of God has been killed! Then he said: Make it the day of your sorrow; because a group before you - the Umayyads - made it their day of rejoicing, so God became angry with them!
Translation of the saying:
Ali ibn Ismail Damghani informed us and said: I asked Mansoor about fasting on the Day of Ashura, so he said: There is no problem, then he said: Do not fast in it unless you fast before or after it and do not fast in it for luck; because only the Jews and those who did wrong looked for luck in it, and there is no problem in marrying on this day whenever it coincides with it, and it is distasted only because of Daff (meaning celebration and joy).
Translation of the saying:
Hashim ibn Ubayd al-Khujandi informed us and said: I asked this scholar about the word of God Almighty who said: “And remind them of the days of God”, then he said: The day in which God raised His Prophet is one of those (days) and the day his Excellency migrated to Medina is one of those (days) and the day of Badr is one of those (days) and the day of Ahzab is one of those (days) and the day of the conquest of Mecca is one of those (days) and he mentioned some other days and then he said: And the day of Ashura is one of those (days) and on that day the pure pious Hussain ibn Ali was killed by the river Euphrates! I said: What happened to his Excellency when he raised, while Abdullah bin Umar forbade him?! He said: Abdullah bin Umar forbade him from good!

Translation of the saying:
Salih ibn Muhammad al-Sabzawari informed us and said: I heard Mansoor saying: Do not commit adultery; because by God, nobody killed the prophets except the children of adultery, and nobody killed Hussain ibn Ali except the child of adultery! Then he lowered his voice and said: What Abu Abdullah saw from the black and white dog!
Translation of the saying:
Hassan Ibn Qasim Tehrani informed us and said: I asked Mansoor about visiting the shrine of Hussain, so he said: Visit it and greet his Excellency and ask God for your needs. I said: How can I greet his Excellency at his shrine? He said: Say: Peace be upon you, O Aba Abdullah, peace be upon you, son of the Messenger of God, I bear witness you held the prayer and paid Zakat and promote good and demote evil and fought in the way of God appropriately until death came to you, so may God curse the one who killed you and may God curse the one who commanded it and may God curse the one who became aware of it and was satisfied with it, I hate them toward God! I said: Shall I do Tawaf around his shrine? He said: No, and do not pray in front of it, but go aside and pray in some porches.
