Translation of the saying:

Walid bin Mahmoud Sijistani informed us and said: I heard Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani says: Opinion is conjecture and narration is conjecture and conjecture does not suffice anything from the truth; knowledge is only achieved by hearing from the appointee! I said: what do you mean by the appointee? He said: the person whom has been appointed by God as the Caliph on earth and an Imam for people! I said: it is so often that one hears from the appointee, then he leaves him and he will narrate what he heard from him to his brothers, therefore they act upon his narration! He said: I do not mean this by narration, I mean narrations from the dead only! So you narrate from the appointee as long as he is alive, then when he passed away, you refer to his caliph and narrate from him and do not abandon him in order to narrate from the dead, so that your foot slip after it was firmly planted and you feel the evil because you prevented from the path of God and then for you there would be a great punishment.

Translation of the saying:

Abubakr bin Abdul Bari informed us and said: I saw Mansoor in some of these mountains –and he pointed toward the mountains of Pamir- while he was riding on a donkey and none of his companions were with him, so I told him: are you the person who says: for God there is a Caliph on earth that whoever meets God without knowing him, he has met God while He is angry at him?! He said: yes! I said: inform me about this Caliph, is he only from you (the Hashimis) or from you and other Quraysh equally? He said: no, I swear to God, he is only from us and no other Qurayshi shares him with us! I said: so inform me about people, is it mandatory upon them to come to you and ask you directly when they reach at the age of religious responsibility? He said: yes I swear to God, just as it is mandatory for those who are able to travel to the house of God for Hajj! I said: so inform me about one who is not able to travel to you, can he act upon what his trustworthy people narrate from you? He said: he acts upon what trustworthy people narrate from our alive one and does not act upon what they narrate from our dead! I asked: What for?! He replied: because every alive one from us is an Imam for the people of his time and our alive one should not be abandoned because of our dead ones! I said: if they have not narrated from your alive one, can he act upon narrations from your dead ones?! He said: he does that while it is not acceptable and reward worthy and the fault would be upon those who did not narrate from our alive one and this is the word of God who has said: “To warn those who are alive and to make the word upright on unbelievers”.

Translation of the saying:

Hashim bin Ubaid Khujandi informed us and said: I heard Mansoor was saying to a man: follow what you hear with your two ears from the Caliph of God on earth or from one of his companions who narrates from him while he is alive; because it is so probable that no lie can be imputed to an alive person and if a lie is imputed to him, he would definitely deny it and he will clarify for people of his time either those who are present or those who are absent until he passes away and then those who live after him will refer to his Caliph among them, so they will hear from him and they narrate from him and they do not stop and return to the dead and they do not say like those who have been deviated in the past that: “We found our forefathers on this manner and we follow them”; because God has left the same thing for them as He left for their forefathers, a consistent book and a guider Caliph and He has commanded them the same thing that their forefathers were commanded to! So whoever performs based on the book of God and His Caliph, has performed based on God and His Messenger and whoever performs based on these narrators will be kept on hold, so if they have told him the truth, he will be saved and if they have lied to him, he will perish and most of them are liars!

Translation of the saying:

Ahmad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Taloqani informed us and said: I heard that Mansoor says: God has commanded you to know His Caliph on earth and to migrate toward him so that you hear from him and learn about religion, then He knew that not all of you can migrate toward him, therefore He forgave you and made it easy for you and He became satisfied that only a number of you from each group migrate so that they learn about religion and they warn their nation when they return back to them so that they become vigilant! God allowed those of you who are oppressed and patients and women and children and those who travel on earth (for business) to seek God’s blessing and Mujahideen to act upon what those just people among them who migrate, narrate for them, so that there would be no impasse in their religion while they know the Caliph of God on earth but they are not able to migrate to him. But God has not commanded you to not to know His Caliph on earth, or to abandon him and follow what you found your forefathers did, or to follow the remnant of what has been left from predecessors so that you cut what God has commanded to keep connected constantly and to spread corruption on earth after it has been fixed, or to grow discord among one another out of enmity after you have received knowledge such that a group of you imitate some men and another group imitate some other men, and whoever follows the Caliph of God on earth whom He has appointed as Imam for people, indeed has been guided toward pure words and a praised path.
