Actions and goals
Considering the principle that His Eminence Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani, may Allah Almighty protect him, has put forth about the advent of Imam Mahdi, peace be upon him, that his advent does not require the gathering of all people but rather the gathering of a sufficient number of them, I have the following questions in order: 1. Is the quantity and quality of this sufficient number known to His Eminence Allamah, or is its knowledge with Allah? 2. Has this sufficient number not existed in the time of the previous caliphs? Considering that the previous caliphs possessed significant power at some points in history; as Ali had 130,000 men in the Battle of Siffin, Hasan ibn Ali had 12,000 men in the war against Mu‘awiyah, Husain had 18,000 men in Kufa, and Ja‘far al-Sadiq had 100,000 men from Khorasan who asked him to rise up when Abu Muslim al-Khorasani did. The Shias also made preparations and gathered for the Mahdi’s advent many times, even in recent centuries; as the anticipation and readinessfor his advent during the Safavid era was so high that some Shia scholars, such as al-Majlisi, considered that time to be the time of his advent and believed that the Safavids were the preparers of the ground for his advent; because most of the narrations applied to their time. However, the advent did not occur! With this introduction, I ask you, what is the problem that prevented the Imams of the Ahl al-Bayt from achieving their goals? 3. Do the flaws of the people of the past not exist in us? What is our distinctive feature that did not exist in the people of the past? While it appears that they were stronger and in a better state than us! Considering the difficulty of matters, the complexity of circumstances, and the physical and mental weaknesses that have taken hold of us over time, I believe that it is impossible to gather a sufficient number of helpers who are free from the flaws of the people of the past, except by a special favor from Allah. This leaves me in bewilderment and surprise!

The necessity and attributes of the Caliph of Allah
I read the topic of the criterion of cognition and the impediments to it from the book Return to Islam, and the rest of the topics are also being read. I was pleased that the author has established the authority of the intellect and the impermissibility of imitation in any form. However, I was displeased with his statement that the caliphate and Imamate continue after the last Prophet. I do not find this to be rational or in accordance with the Quran, but rather it contradicts the justice of Allah. Similarly, I was displeased with his statement that the caliphs and Imams are twelve; because their period is short, while the lifespan of the Ummah is longer than theirs. I was also displeased with his statement that they are from the Ahl al-Bayt of the Prophet; because this resembles a dynasty of kings, and it is a statement that Shia scholars have invented to deceive their common people and gain wealth and leadership. As for the verse «وَنُرِيدُ أَنْ نَمُنَّ عَلَى الَّذِينَ اسْتُضْعِفُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَنَجْعَلَهُمْ أَئِمَّةً وَنَجْعَلَهُمُ الْوَارِثِينَ»; “And it is Our will to confer a favor upon those who were oppressed on Earth and make them leaders and make them inheritors,” and other verses that the author has cited to prove the matter of the Mahdi, they do not indicate it. They are only good news of intellectual and rational development for humanity, and this is what will reform the world and eliminate oppression and manipulation of religion in the future.

The principles and guidelines
I agree with the view of His Eminence Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani, may Allah Almighty protect him. According to his view, as I understood it from his great book Return to Islam, firstly, conjecture about the rulings of Islam is not adequate for people, but rather they must have certainty about them, just as they must have certainty about the beliefs; secondly, the only way for people to reach certainty about them is to go to Allah’s caliph on Earth; because he has perfect knowledge of the Quran and the Sunnah; thirdly, going to Allah’s caliph on Earth is possible for people; because its impossibility for them is a temporary and incidental matter caused by their bad choice, and it will disappear if they fulfill the necessary conditions for the advent of Allah’s caliph on Earth. However, the question that concerns me is: as someone who has answered the invitation of His Eminence Mansoor and is determined to prepare the ground for the Mahdi’s advent, how can I now fulfill my religious obligations, such as prayer, fasting, Hajj, and zakat? Considering that imitation and ijtihad based on conjectural evidence do not discharge my obligations, as they both lead to conjecture, «وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا» (An-Najm/ 28); “while conjecture is not sufficient for (proving) the truth.” Moreover, my will and actions alone are not sufficient for the Mahdi’s advent so that I can be certain of my religious obligations by going to him, unless a sufficient number of people join me, but this process may take a long time, and they may not answer the invitation of His Eminence Mansoor as I have, while it is clear that I cannot abandon my religious obligations during this time. Yes, His Eminence Mansoor has said that the blame for this deprivation lies with me, «وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ لَيْسَ بِظَلَّامٍ لِلْعَبِيدِ» (Al Imran/ 182); “and Allah is not unjust to (His) servants.” This is true; because I was negligent on my part in not being able to reach the Mahdi, and consequently, not being able to reach certainty about the rulings of Sharia, but now I have repented and answered the invitation of His Eminence Mansoor, and I am determined to prepare the ground for the Mahdi’s advent. However, I still cannot reach certainty about the rulings of Sharia as before; because people do not join me sufficiently. At this point, my question arises: what is my recourse, and how can I know and fulfill my religious obligations during this time without imitation, ijtihad, or going to the Mahdi? Has my situation in this regard not changed from what it was before knowing the truth and answering the invitation of His Eminence Mansoor?! Is my state equal to that of others who have not done so?! If so, then what is the benefit of knowing the truth and answering the invitation of His Eminence Mansoor for me in terms of knowledge and fulfilling religious obligations (regardless of the fact that they are necessary for the Mahdi’s advent)?! You have answered all my questions so far, and this is the last one I have. I believe that if you answer this one as well, the proof will be established against me from all aspects, and I will be able to dedicate my wealth and myself to the cause of this great man with all my heart, Insha’Allah. Thank you in advance for your answer.

Imitation
After reading the book Return to Islam, I have some questions, a few of which I will ask as my patience allows. Thank you in advance for your honest response. On page 57 of the book, it has been stated as a rejection of imitating scholars: “Their disagreements with each other about their sayings and action are deep and numerous; whereas the truth is surely a unitary saying and action and cannot become plural or multiplied. Therefore, following them, on the one hand, is contradictory and meaningless, and on the other hand, it leads to disagreement among Muslims; as it has already led to it; because the disagreement among Muslims about their beliefs and deeds, more than anything else, is due to their following different scholars.” However, this statement itself indicates the possibility of disagreement even between two individuals who do not imitate anyone but rather gain an understanding of religion through studying the Quran and the Sunnah. Therefore, it cannot be said that gaining an understanding of religion leads Muslims to a single perception, while according to the book, only one perception is considered correct. This means that we will always have Muslims who do not have a correct perception despite gaining an understanding of religion. This is also true if they do not gain an understanding of religion! What is the difference then between gaining an understanding of religion and not doing so?! Another question is that after the previous passage, it has been stated: “Following them is based on their followers’ conjecture about the compatibility of their sayings and actions with Sharia.” Unfortunately, despite emphasizing rational certainty, the author has not provided any evidence for this point. It is worth noting that if someone goes to scholars and asks them for evidence from the Quran and the Sunnah for their fatwas, they will not refuse and will present it to him. Thank you.
