One day, a group of men came to the presence of Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani 
. He then gave them advice and informed them of their shortcomings until they wept and said: “Seek forgiveness for us!” He sought forgiveness for them and then went out of the house. He then saw their wives sitting on the road and talking to each other. He passed by them and did not pay any attention to them. They became upset and said: “He passed by us and did not pay any attention to us!” He heard their words, returned to them, and said: “Do you know why I passed by you and did not pay any attention to you?” They said: “No.” He said:
Because of eleven traits and one trait that cast you down from the heavens, just as autumn (casts down) leaves from the tree: you think less, and speak more, and get upset more quickly, and forgive more slowly, and fear more intensely, and are deceived more easily, and reveal the secret, and envy the neighbor, and backbite the friend, and disgrace the enemy, and do not endure calamity patiently, and worse yet, you do not accept advice, but instead become offended by it. And this was worse because it closed the path to your reform!
So they were offended and said: “It is not as you say. Rather, we are no different from men.” So he said:
By Allah, you will not hear flattery or nonsense from me. So accept my advice and do not be offended by it; because it is purification for you whenever you are after purification! Beware, do not be deceived by those who cover up your shortcomings; because they are not your well-wishers, and they draw you to evil so that you follow something you have no knowledge of and engage in a task you cannot handle! They count you as men, yet they do not believe what they say. Rather, through flattery and nonsense, they want to make you feel proud so that you help them achieve what they seek, while they do not seek anything for you, but rather they seek something for themselves, and that is bigger profits from sales; because you buy more, and work cheaper, and accept control more easily, and are profitable for them! So in this way, they pull you out of your homes, and separate you from your children, and take you away from your husbands, and bring you into the marketplaces to compete with men for wealth and status, while you will not reach them except rarely and with trouble; because Allah has not created you to compete with them. Rather, He has created (you) to partner with them so that they do for you tasks you cannot, and you do for them tasks they cannot, and in this way, you complete each other and lead (each other) to happiness in the world. Have you not heard that they have said: “Everyone has been made for a purpose”? So now return to your homes, and do your tasks, and leave men’s tasks to men; because if they do their tasks too, you will achieve what you desire.
Then he turned away from them and said:
Good for learned women if they exist, and good for pious women if they are found!
