Question & Answer

I am a pulpiteer and one of the admirers of His Eminence Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani (may Allah protect him) in Iran. I sometimes use his illuminating words of wisdom and eloquent pieces of advice in my sermons to introduce people to the truths of Islam. Unfortunately, due to the security situation in Iran and the poisonous atmosphere created by the rulers against this oppressed scholar, I cannot mention his name or explicitly quote his words of wisdom and pieces of advice; especially considering the presence of some fanatics among the mosque attendees who, if they hear me mention the name of this scholar, will not perform prayer behind me and will cause many problems for me. Nevertheless, I sometimes refer to this scholar in general terms, saying, for example, “In the words of one of the great people,” or “In the words of one of the scholars,” or “One of the wise has said,” and the like. However, I do not know if these hints are sufficient or not. In any case, is it permissible for me to do this, considering that I intend to spread the knowledge of Islam through it? If not, what should I do?

Thank you and this great scholar who embodies the words of Allah Almighty: «إِنَّكَ عَلَى الْحَقِّ الْمُبِينِ»; “You are surely on the (path of) clear truth.” Through his works, he has raised our thoughts and insights about Islam to new heights, corrected our wrong views, especially in the matter of the Mahdi, and begun a great and unprecedented cultural revolution in the world of Islam that heralds the global revolution of the Mahdi, Insha’Allah.

It is heartening that there are still a few free men like you among pulpiteers who have not sold their religion for the world, nor followed the desires of tyrants, nor been deceived by the lies of mercenaries. They are aware of the truthfulness of His Eminence Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani (may Allah protect him) and the high value of his work. They adhere to Allah’s Book and the Sunnah of His Prophet and are indifferent to what the devils of jinn and mankind suggest. They appreciate “his illuminating words of wisdom and eloquent pieces of advice” in this age of ignorance and care about nothing but “spreading the knowledge of Islam.” However, it is very regrettable that repression in Iranian society has reached a level where the people of knowledge do not dare even to mention the name of anyone other than the rulers and their minions and fear mentioning the name of an independent Muslim scholar or quoting his scholarly and ethical words; like the repression in the Umayyad society that prevented the people of knowledge from mentioning the name of Ali ibn Abi Talib or quoting his words, forced them to fabricate hadith against him to please the rulers, and created a dark and evil atmosphere in which hatred for him spread among the young and the old, to the extent that the Umayyad rulers were considered the legitimate caliphs of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) while his Ahl al-Bayt were considered a rebellious and deviant group with false claims seeking to divide Muslims! The same current continues to this day, and only the names have changed to be a test for people. Those who claim absolute guardianship and invite people toward their own rule unrightfully are considered the representatives of the true Islam, while the one who prepares the ground for the advent of the Mahdi and invites people toward the rule of the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) is considered a rebellious and deviant person with false claims seeking to divide Muslims! The people of knowledge are prevented from mentioning the name of Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani or quoting his words and are forced to slander him and spread lies against him to please the rulers. Such an evil and dark atmosphere has been created that hatred for him has spread among the young and the old. Things have now got to a point where a handful of foolish and fanatical youths, devoid of knowledge or manners, incited by their wicked hypocritical leaders, direct all kinds of insults and curses toward this oppressed scholar, do not refrain from any form of humiliation or slander against his pure presence, and imprison and harm his companions and admirers; as their fathers, incited by the Umayyad rulers, directed all kinds of insults and curses toward Ali ibn Abi Talib, did not refrain from any form of humiliation or slander against him, and imprisoned and harmed his companions and admirers, while this oppressed scholar, following the path of Ali ibn Abi Talib, speaks based on Allah’s Book and the Sunnah of His Prophet. His only crime is refusing to fawn over tyrants or to submit to oppressors. Woe to these vile ones who have always been playthings in the hands of tyrants and helpers of oppressors against the Ahl al-Bayt of their Prophet, trampling over oppressed reformers to please unjust rulers!

As for you quoting from His Eminence Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani without mentioning his name or in general terms for fear of the Iranian government, it is similar to some of the Sahabah and the Tabi‘un quoting from Ali ibn Abi Talib without mentioning his name or in general terms for fear of the Umayyads’ rule; as it is well-known that when they wanted to quote from him, they would say, “A man from the Quraysh said” or “One of the Sahabah said” and would not mention his name. Also, it has been reported from some of them that when they wanted to quote from him, they would say, “Abu Zainab said,” so that no one would understand they meant Ali ibn Abi Talib[1]. Therefore, if their action is considered correct, then your action is also correct. However, it appears that their action is not considered correct; because, although it protected their lives and wealth against oppressors, it helped to maintain the rule of oppressors and led later generations of Muslims, who were not familiar with the merits of Ali ibn Abi Talib, to turn away from him. Therefore, it was an example of concealing Allah’s signs and covering the truth with falsehood and exactly what unjust rulers wanted. For this reason, there were free men among the Sahabah and the Tabi‘un who mentioned the name of Ali and spoke of his virtues despite the pressure and threats of unjust rulers and gave up their wealth and lives on this path. Undoubtedly, if these individuals had not existed, the name of Ali would have been forgotten, his virtues buried, and no opportunity left to guide later generations, and in this way, the goal of unjust rulers would have been achieved.

It is understood from here that quoting the words of Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani (may Allah protect him) without mentioning his name or in general terms, especially in this critical period, is not appropriate and is considered an example of concealing the truth and covering it with falsehood. Rather, there must be some individuals among people who sacrifice their wealth and lives in the way of Allah, break the unjust norms of oppressors, and do what is greater and harder for them so that by the will and efforts of these free individuals, the current evil and dark atmosphere changes, the conditions are prepared for the awakening of Muslims in the world, and the word of Allah is fulfilled, where He has said: ﴿يُرِيدُونَ لِيُطْفِئُوا نُورَ اللَّهِ بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَاللَّهُ مُتِمُّ نُورِهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْكَافِرُونَ[2]; “They want to extinguish Allah’s light with their mouths, while Allah perfects His light, even though disbelievers hate it.”

On this basis, we advise all Muslim preachers, thinkers, and writers to remember Allah and the Last Day and not fear mentioning the name of this great man, nor hesitate about quoting his scholarly and ethical words, nor dance to every tune played by tyrants, nor accept such humiliation and vileness for themselves; because the life of the world is too short to conceal the truth or cover it with falsehood for its sake, and the good end belongs to the pious, not to the arrogant or those who have sold themselves for a paltry price.

Answer to
Sub-Question 1
Date: 2017 October 1

Any use or quotation of the book Return to Islam and other content published on this Islamic website is permissible, provided that the full source is mentioned and the name of its copyright holder, meaning Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani (may Allah protect him) is explicitly stated, but it is not permissible without mentioning the full source or explicitly stating his name, and there is no difference between that and theft and deception.

Unfortunately, it has been seen that some exploiters, opportunists, and those who do not fear Allah quote the scholarly content published on this Islamic website without mentioning the full source or explicitly stating the name of Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani (may Allah protect him) in a manner and context similar to their own words, with this excuse worse than the sin that they do not want to promote it, while they want to promote themselves! This is undoubtedly a clear example of deception, betrayal of trust, and cooperating with the enemies of the truth to conceal it and cover it with falsehood, which is a very great sin; as Allah Almighty has said: ﴿وَلَا تَلْبِسُوا الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُوا الْحَقَّ وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ[1]; “And do not cover the truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know.”

It is regrettable that the scholarly content and unique notes published on this Islamic website have been sent many times to a religious scholar, university professor, website, or politician to be the cause of his insight and guidance to the truth, but they have been published after a while as his own opinions, without the slightest reference to their source and their copyright holder, while only Allah, we, and that individual know the reality, and others think that they are his opinions! Undoubtedly, what has paved the way for this cowardly exploitation in Iran, regardless of the spread of arrogance and moral decline among different classes of people, is the blocking of this Islamic website in this country, which has enabled exploiters, opportunists, and those who do not fear Allah to carry out this abhorrent act, without anyone knowing about it; because most people in this country cannot access this Islamic website, while their access to these individuals is easy and abundant, in addition to the fact that they trust and think positively of them and do not consider such a possibility about them to be true!

In addition to exploiters, opportunists, and those who do not fear Allah, there are others who steal the scholarly content and unique notes published on this Islamic website. They are false claimants to being imams or the Mahdi, those who consider any wrongdoing and lie to be lawful for themselves and their followers, do not respect the material and intellectual property of their opponents, believe that their opponents’ works and remarks can be confiscated for their benefit and used to promote themselves, and deliberately try to trivialize the truth and render it obsolete so that in their supposition, they do not lose their market among people. They are certainly a great calamity![2]

Of course, these abuses clearly do not harm the oppressed and lonely scholar, Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani (may Allah protect him), or his sincere and anonymous companions who speak and write for Allah; because their reward is preserved with Allah and is not destroyed by the wickedness and harm of vile people. Also, the truth will not remain hidden forever and will be revealed one day. However, these abuses harm people without a doubt; because the abusers do not speak or write for Allah, but rather for their personal interests and worldly ambitions. They often mix the truth, which they have stolen from us, with their falsehood, causing its trivialization and people’s deviation more than before! This is undoubtedly a trial for people and leads them into doubt. Therefore, Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani (may Allah protect him) has pointed to it in one of his words of wisdom and said:

[3]»[4]; “Let me be from these arrogant lowly people who attribute Allah things that they have no knowledge of! Do you not know that this knowledge is a treasure from treasures of Paradise which was descended from there with Adam (peace be upon him) and then it was transmitted to the prophets and the sincere and the witnesses and the righteous from his children until it returns to Paradise with their last one?! Do you want to put such a treasure in the hands of kids and lunatics and addicts?! No I swear to Allah they are not trusted with it and they have nothing to do with it and there are thieves among them who will steal it to sell it with a low price and use it against proofs and friends of Allah! ‘So leave them in their confusion for a time’!”

He has also said in another word of wisdom, referring to his righteous and truthful companions:

Then you will find them strong companions and faithful helpers for me; they will carry my knowledge, and protect it from theft, and make its springs flow, and compete with each other to act on it; for they have seeing eyes and hearing ears, and know the value of the scholar.[5]

It is understood from here that any use or benefit from the works of Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani (may Allah protect him) must be accompanied by explicitly stating his name and mentioning the full source so that the truth does not enter the service of the people of falsehood, knowledge does not become a shield in the hands of the ignorant, wisdom does not contribute to the flourishing of the market of the foolish, the truth does not turn into a means of promoting lies, and those who want to know more can refer to the source and see the relevant content and notes, away from the suggestions and interpretations of others, so that they may be guided.
