What is the opinion of His Eminence Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani about a specific day of the month being auspicious or inauspicious? Some consider the month of Safar to be an inauspicious month, and some believe that there are seven inauspicious days in every month.
The inauspiciousness of times and places follows the inauspiciousness of their inhabitants, and the inauspiciousness of their inhabitants is a result of their bad deeds; as Allah Almighty has said: ﴿طَائِرُكُمْ مَعَكُمْ﴾[1]; “Your evil omen is with yourselves,” meaning that your inauspiciousness is with yourselves because of your bad deeds. This has been mentioned by al-Zajjaj, ibn Abi Hatim, al-Samarqandi, al-Wahidi, al-Sam‘ani, al-Nasafi, al-Baghawi, al-Tha‘labi, al-Razi, ibn al-Jawzi, al-Zamakhshari, and others, and it has been narrated from ibn Abbas[2]. Therefore, every day is inauspicious for those who are unfortunate in it, and every day is auspicious for those who are fortunate in it; as one of our companions informed us, he said:
«سَأَلْتُ الْمَنْصُورَ عَنْ نَحْسِ الْأَيَّامِ وَسَعْدِهَا، فَقَالَ: كُلُّ يَوْمٍ يُعْصَى اللَّهُ فِيهِ فَهُوَ نَحْسٌ، وَكُلُّ يَوْمٍ لَا يُعْصَى اللَّهُ فِيهِ فَهُوَ سَعْدٌ»; “I asked Mansoor about the inauspiciousness and auspiciousness of days. So he said: ‘Every day in which Allah is disobeyed is inauspicious, and every day in which Allah is not disobeyed is auspicious.’”
Also, one of our companions informed us, he said:
!»; “I said to Mansoor: ‘A man invited me to his daughter’s wedding on Wednesday. Then I asked him to postpone it to Thursday or Friday and told him that Wednesday is an inauspicious day.’ So Mansoor said: ‘You did a bad thing! Do you not know that every day in which Allah is obeyed is auspicious?!’”
This means that there is no inherently auspicious or inauspicious day. Rather, auspiciousness and inauspiciousness are relative and incidental qualities. Yes, there may be days that are suitable or unsuitable for practices such as cupping and sexual intercourse due to the influence of natural conditions on those days. However, this is not a matter of auspiciousness or inauspiciousness, regardless of the lack of credible religious or rational evidence for most of what is said about it.
