This task is intended as preparation for his appearance; given that if it is accomplished today, he will certainly appear tomorrow, and even access to him will be possible tonight, for Allah does not do injustice even for an instant—and this is reflected in Allah’s statement, where He has said: ﴿فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَجَلُهُمْ لَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ سَاعَةً ۖ وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ[1]; “So when their appointed time arrives, they neither lag behind nor move ahead, even for an instant.” However, so far, the more I have searched, the less I have found, to the extent that I have become exhausted and disheartened; for it is as if the Earth is devoid of righteous people![2]

[The Consequences of the Mahdi’s Non-Appearance for People]

From this, it is understood that people’s lack of access to the Mahdi and the consequences that result from it are due to their own fault. Therefore, this is not considered an excuse for them to abandon the obligations that can be carried out through access to him. This is because anyone who places himself into a state of necessity through his own wrongful action and choice is not considered excused merely for his state of necessity; like a hungry person who intentionally wastes lawful food, despite knowing that he needs it, and then is compelled to eat unlawful food, and therefore, eating the unlawful food is a sin upon him, even if he has no other choice; as Allah Almighty has said: ﴿فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَلَا عَادٍ فَلَا إِثْمَ عَلَيْهِ[3]; “Then whoever is compelled, without being negligent or exceeding the limit, there is no sin upon him”—meaning that if he is compelled due to his own negligence or excess, he is a sinner; or like a thief who willingly enters usurped land and then is compelled to perform prayer there, while his act of making use of that land is impermissible, even for prayer, and therefore, his prayer there is invalid, even at the end of the time and due to a state of necessity. This is the meaning of the statement of Allah Almighty, where He has said: ﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُصْلِحُ عَمَلَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ[4]; “Indeed, Allah does not make right the deed of the corruptors.” Therefore, those who, through their own negligence in sufficiently supporting the Mahdi, have prevented the establishment of his government are not permitted to form another government, even if they have no alternative; and their other government, if they form it, has no legitimacy.

As has been narrated from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq, who said: «إِنَّ لِهَذَا الْأَمْرِ غَايَةً يَنْتَهِي إِلَيْهَا، فَلَوْ قَدْ بَلَغُوهَا لَمْ يَسْتَقْدِمُوا سَاعَةً وَلَمْ يَسْتَأْخِرُوا»; “This matter has an end it is meant to reach. So when they reach it, they neither lag behind nor go ahead, even for an instant.” Al-Nu‘mani (d. around 360 AH) narrated this in al-Ghaybah (p. 306).
↑[2] . For this reason, His Eminence Mansoor (may Allah Almighty support him) has expressed his complaint in some of his sayings. He has said: “To Allah, I complain of my loneliness, the weakness of my strength, and my insignificance in the eyes of people! Where are my brothers? Where are my helpers toward Allah? Where are those who separated from their families and children and got far from their homelands? Where are the fighters in the way of Allah, and the weak men, women, and children? Where are those who left their trades, damaged their incomes, disappeared from their cliques without being absent from their cities, entered into an alliance with a stranger who would help them in their task, turned their backs on an acquaintance who would prevent them from their goal, came together after being scattered and separated in their time, and severed their ties of attachment to the world’s worthless possessions? Where are the servants of Allah the Merciful? Where are devout worshippers of the night and lions of the day? Where are godly people who neither lost heart nor gave in until Allah’s help came to them? Where are those whom Allah loves and who love Him, who strive in the way of Allah and do not fear the blame of any blamer?” He has also said: “Ah, how I long for them! They are surely my brothers whom time has separated from me, and place has stood between me and them, but soon they will hear my call, like the whistling of the owner of pigeons, and rush to me from the outskirts of this earth to accompany me on the path that I have taken and help me achieve the goal that I have aimed for. Then you will find them as firm companions and loyal allies to me; they carry my knowledge, safeguard it from theft, unleash its springs, and compete to act upon it; because they possess keen eyes and attentive ears and know the value of the scholar. They are neither foolish nor foul-mouthed nor feeble nor impatient. Doubt does not approach them, nor does negative thought overtake them. They treat each other mercifully and get along with each other. God has praised them with this pleasing attribute and saved them for this blessed matter.
