because God has repeatedly accused people of the Book of concealing the truth and covering it with falsehood[1], informed of their fabricating lies against Him and their distortion of the Book[2], and warned against taking them as friends and following their religion[3], and therefore, it is impossible that He has commanded seeking knowledge from them. Rather, perhaps what He means by “remembrance” in this verse is His Messenger; as He has explicitly called him “remembrance” and said: ﴿قَدْ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْكُمْ ذِكْرًا ۝ رَسُولًا يَتْلُو عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ مُبَيِّنَاتٍ[4]; “God has sent toward you a remembrance: a Messenger who recites to you the illustrative verses of God,” and therefore, “people of remembrance” are none other than the family of the Messenger of God , whom God has explicitly informed about their complete purity, and also the Messenger of God has most emphatically emphasized on the necessity of adhering to them along with the Quran, and this is a preferred saying that has been narrated from Ali ibn Abi Talib[5] and Abu Ja‘far al-Baqir[6]; but it appears that those who have been trained in Umayyad school prefer following Jews and Christians to following the Ahl al-Bayt of their Prophet and flee to disbelief for fear of Shiism! While it is clear that following the Ahl al-Bayt of the Prophet is based on definite texts of the Quran and the Sunnah, and therefore, Shiism is not considered in the sense of a sect, but rather it is one of the requirements of the original and perfect Islam, like performing prayer and paying Zakat.

↑[1] . As God Almighty has said: ﴿وَإِنَّ فَرِيقًا مِنْهُمْ لَيَكْتُمُونَ الْحَقَّ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ (Al-Baqarah/ 146); “But surely, a group of them conceal the truth while they know it!”
↑[2] . As God Almighty has said: ﴿فَوَيْلٌ لِلَّذِينَ يَكْتُبُونَ الْكِتَابَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ ثُمَّ يَقُولُونَ هَذَا مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ لِيَشْتَرُوا بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا ۖ فَوَيْلٌ لَهُمْ مِمَّا كَتَبَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَوَيْلٌ لَهُمْ مِمَّا يَكْسِبُونَ (Al-Baqarah/ 79); “So woe to those who write the Book with their hands, then say: ‘This is from God,’ so that they may sell it for a little price; so woe to them for what their hands have written, and woe to them for their earnings!”
↑[3] . As God Almighty has said: ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا الْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى أَوْلِيَاءَ ۘ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ بَعْضٍ ۚ وَمَنْ يَتَوَلَّهُمْ مِنْكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ (Al-Ma’idah/ 51); “O you who believed! Do not take Jews and Christians as your friends! Some are friends of some others, and whoever of you takes them as his friends, he is undoubtedly one of them! Indeed, God does not guide the group of oppressors!”
