as God Almighty has said: ﴿وَلَقَدْ جَاءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُمْ بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ فَمَا كَانُوا لِيُؤْمِنُوا بِمَا كَذَّبُوا مِنْ قَبْلُ ۚ كَذَلِكَ يَطْبَعُ اللَّهُ عَلَى قُلُوبِ الْكَافِرِينَ[1]; “And indeed, their Prophets brought them clear signs, but they could not believe in what they had denied before! This is how God seals the hearts of disbelievers.”

[The necessity of submitting to God’s satisfactions and dissatisfactions]

There is no doubt that the requirement of being a Muslim is to abandon one’s satisfactions and dissatisfactions and submit to God’s satisfactions and dissatisfactions; as God Almighty has said: ﴿فَإِلَهُكُمْ إِلَهٌ وَاحِدٌ فَلَهُ أَسْلِمُوا[2]; “Your God is the One God; so submit to Him,” and said: ﴿وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ[3]; “And you do not will unless God, the Lord of the worlds, wills”; because rational satisfactions and dissatisfactions are subject to the goodness and badness of things, and the goodness and badness of things are subject to God, as it was made clear, and whoever puts his own satisfactions and dissatisfactions before God’s satisfactions and dissatisfactions is not a believer; as God Almighty has said: ﴿فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّى يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُوا فِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ حَرَجًا مِمَّا قَضَيْتَ وَيُسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا[4]; “But no, by your Lord, they will not believe until they make you judge in all disputes among themselves, and then find no anxiety within themselves about what you decide and submit themselves completely,” and said: ﴿ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ[5]; “That was because they were averse to what God sent down, so He destroyed their deeds,” and said: ﴿ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ اتَّبَعُوا مَا أَسْخَطَ اللَّهَ وَكَرِهُوا رِضْوَانَهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَالَهُمْ[6]; “That was because they followed what angered God and were averse to what pleased Him, so He destroyed their deeds.”

[Consequences of following passions]

Therefore, abandoning prejudgments, preconceptions, and presumptions arising from illusions, emotions, and tastes is considered a prerequisite for cognition and necessary for its realization.
