Based on this, it can be said that the material advancements of disbelievers after the European revolution have been more due to their turning away from spirituality and forgetting the life of the Hereafter than being a result of their greater knowledge and effort; because, after growing weary of a thousand years of the Church’s anti-intellectualism, they decided to separate from religion and designed and established a system devoid of belief in the unseen, which still persists steadily and increasingly. The role of this new materialistic system, which has cast its shadow over the entire world, is quite clear and prominent in the expansion and institutionalization of worldliness; because, over the past two centuries, using new propaganda tools and creating an unnatural cycle of supply and demand, this atheistic system has transformed worldliness into the official and public culture of the world, to the extent that even Islamic countries have not been safe from its influence, and most Muslims have lost their concern for the Hereafter under its dominance; because, as is evident, the individual and social priority of most Muslims today is securing material livelihood and well-being, whereas the individual and social priority in Islam is securing the Hereafter and Islamic ideals, which, of course, when secured, material livelihood and well-being will also be secured appropriately and justly.

[The Consequences of Worldliness]

This is an important reality that, contrary to popular perception, the outcome of worldliness is not an improvement in the state of the world; because worldliness is turning away from the Hereafter, and turning away from the Hereafter is turning away from justice and moral values. This not only fails to lead to an improvement in the state of the world but, in a reverse equation, leads to an increase in the class gap and consequently to war, while war alone is capable of destroying all worldly achievements. Therefore, it is evident that modern worldliness has failed to resolve worldly problems; because, although it has made the life of the world easy for a minority of people, it has transformed it into an unbearable calamity for the majority of them. Likewise, according to official statistics, half of the world’s wealth is held by one-hundredth of its population, and every minute, ten children die of hunger across the world.
