because following the sayings and actions of some of them means not following the sayings and actions of some others, and this is a contradictory and meaningless work; regardless of the fact that following them selectively is not permissible without an intellectual and religious preference, and leads to disagreement among posterity, while with an intellectual and religious preference, it is not considered following them, but rather, in fact, it is following the intellect and Sharia. Therefore, it appears that the Salafists have recently realized the incorrectness of their approach and are getting away from it and reconstructing the principles of Salafism; because they no longer emphasize on the necessity of following the Sahabah, their followers, and the followers of their followers, as in the past, but rather they insist on the necessity of referring to the Quran and the Sunnah regardless of the sayings and actions of the Sahabah, their followers, and the followers of their followers, but the fact is that they will not be able to do so; because following the Sahabah, their followers, and the followers of their followers, although selectively, is no longer an optional work, but rather it is a work that takes place intentionally or unintentionally; because most of what they consider as their criterion of cognition of Islam under the name of the Sunnah are conjectural narrations from the Sahabah, their followers, the followers of their followers, and those who came after them, which have been influenced by their political and sectarian groupings and the events of the first centuries, and consequently, it lacks the necessary authenticity and purity. Therefore, it appears that it is too late to return to the Quran and the Sunnah, and the Salafists in this current structure have no choice but to follow the predecessors unless they break the current structure that is based on conjectures and replace it with another structure that is based on certainties, and this is the path of return to Islam; because Islam is based on certainty, and whatever does not lead to certainty has no place in Islam, and this is a general rule that cannot be specified.
