therefore, adhering to them is futile. However, this belief has no rational basis; because the apparent meanings of the expressions of intellectuals are authoritative among them and indicate their serious intention. Likewise, their general statements are not considered vain; rather, they are understood in their general sense until a specifier comes into effect. It is clear that Allah is also One of the intellectuals—but rather, their Creator and Master; therefore, the apparent meanings and general statements of His expressions are not exempt from this rule.

[Understanding the Quran Is Not Exclusive to a Group of People]

It has also been attributed to some Muslims that they believe the Book of Allah can be understood only by a specific group of Muslims and is of no use to others. However, this belief is also contrary to what is perceived and intuitively understood; for the Book of Allah is not a riddle, but has been revealed in a clear Arabic language and as an address to all people. Accordingly, it has been made easy for their understanding and is suitable for this purpose; as He has said: ﴿وَهَذَا لِسَانٌ عَرَبِيٌّ مُبِينٌ[1]; “And this is a clear Arabic language,” and: ﴿هَذَا بَيَانٌ لِلنَّاسِ[2]; “This is a statement for all people,” and: ﴿وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ[3]; “And undoubtedly, We made the Quran easy to learn; so is there a learner?!” Rather, to be fair, the speech of Allah is clearer than the speech of those who seek to clarify it; because it possesses greater eloquence and rhetoric and is better aligned with the intellects of people. Therefore, whoever is incapable of understanding the speech of Allah will be even less capable of understanding the speech of others; as Allah has said: ﴿تِلْكَ آيَاتُ اللَّهِ نَتْلُوهَا عَلَيْكَ بِالْحَقِّ ۖ فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثٍ بَعْدَ اللَّهِ وَآيَاتِهِ يُؤْمِنُونَ[4]; “These are the verses of Allah that We recite to you in truth; so in which speech after Allah and His verses do they believe?!” and: ﴿وَمَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ اللَّهِ حَدِيثًا[5]; “And who is more truthful than Allah?!”
