as he said before his passing, in various places and in similar words:

I am about to be called, so I shall answer, while I am responsible, and you too are responsible. So I leave among you two weighty treasures as caliphs: the Book of Allah and my Itrah, (who are) my Ahl al-Bayt. If you hold firmly to these two, you will never go astray after me. So see how you treat them after me. And these two will never be separated until they come to me by the Pond. The Subtle, the Aware One has informed me of this.”

This highly important and fundamental Hadith—which is known as “Hadith al-Thaqalayn” and indicates the obligation to adhere to his Itrah and Ahl al-Bayt alongside the Quran, as well as their caliphate and, accordingly, their governance from Allah after him—has been narrated with similar content by more than thirty of the Sahabah of the Prophet, such as Salman al-Farsi[1], Abu Dharr al-Ghifari[2], Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri[3], Zayd ibn Arqam[4],
