It is clear that no meaning is gained behind these beautiful words; because if love means loving the truth, it does not conflict with the intellect. On the contrary, it is based on the intellect; considering that without the intellect, no truth is known, and thus love for it is impossible, and love that is not based on knowing is desire.

[The Role of Sufi Muslims in the Spread of Aversion to the Intellect]

From here, it can be said that Sufi Muslims, alongside Muslim Ahl al-Hadith, have played a prominent role in spreading aversion to the intellect among Muslims, with the difference that Muslim Ahl al-Hadith have been promoters of report-based religion, and Sufi Muslims have been promoters of poetic religion! However, poetry is far less credible than conjectural reports; rather, much of it is nothing but fallacy and wordplay that, due to its rhythm, silences the intellect without convincing it; because it is clear that not every rhythmic statement is correct, and the truth cannot be known through such nonsense; as Allah has referred to these kinds of embellished and incorrect statements as «زخرف القول»; “flowery speech” and has regarded them as fabrications of devils, meant to deceive each other in their hostility toward the Prophets, and He has said: ﴿وَكَذَلِكَ جَعَلْنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ عَدُوًّا شَيَاطِينَ الْإِنْسِ وَالْجِنِّ يُوحِي بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ زُخْرُفَ الْقَوْلِ غُرُورًا ۚ وَلَوْ شَاءَ رَبُّكَ مَا فَعَلُوهُ ۖ فَذَرْهُمْ وَمَا يَفْتَرُونَ﴾[1]; “And thus, We appointed for every Prophet an enemy from among the devils of mankind and jinn, some of whom convey flowery speech to some others to deceive. However, if your Lord had willed, they would not have done it, so leave them to what they fabricate.” Rather, He has referred to such deceptive wordplay as «لهو الحديث»; “idle talk” and has regarded it as a cause of unknowingly straying from the path of Allah and of mocking it, saying: ﴿وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا ۚ أُولَئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُهِينٌ﴾[2]; “And among people are those who choose idle talk to mislead (others) from the path of Allah without knowledge and to ridicule it. For them, there will be a humiliating punishment.”
