Hadith No. 9
The Earth does not remain a single day without the proof of Allah over people.
رَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ بَابَوَيْهِ [ت381ه] فِي «كَمَالِ الدِّينِ وَتَمَامِ النِّعْمَةِ»[1]، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ الْمُتَوَكِّلِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْحِمْيَرِيُّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدٍ الْكُنَاسِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ -يَعْنِي مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ- عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ:
لَيْسَ تَبْقَى الْأَرْضُ -يَا أَبَا خَالِدٍ- يَوْمًا وَاحِدًا بِغَيْرِ حُجَّةٍ لِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ، وَلَمْ تَبْقَ مُنْذُ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ آدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَأَسْكَنَهَ الْأَرْضَ.
Translation:
Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Babawayh [d. 381 AH] has narrated in the book Kamal al-Din Wa Tamam al-Ni‘mah, (in this manner that) he has said: Muhammad ibn Musa ibn Mutawakkil narrated to us, he said: Abdullah ibn Ja‘far al-Himyari narrated to us, he said: Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa narrated to us, from Hasan ibn Mahbub, from Hisham ibn Salim, from Yazid al-Kunasi, who said: Abu Ja‘far—meaning Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Husain—
said:
O Aba Khalid! The Earth does not remain a single day without the proof of Allah over people. And since the time Allah, Exalted and Majestic, created Adam and settled him on the Earth, it has not remained (a single day without the proof of Allah over people).
Attestation No. 1
وَرَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْكُلَيْنِيُّ [ت329ه] فِي «الْكَافِي»[2]، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ، عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ قَالَ: «وَاللَّهِ مَا تَرَكَ اللَّهُ أَرْضًا مُنْذُ قَبَضَ آدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ إِلَّا وَفِيهَا إِمَامٌ يُهْتَدَى بِهِ إِلَى اللَّهِ، وَهُوَ حُجَّتُهُ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ، وَلَا تَبْقَى الْأَرْضُ بِغَيْرِ إِمَامٍ حُجَّةٍ لِلَّهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ».
Translation:
Also, Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub al-Kulayni [d. 329 AH] has narrated in the book al-Kafi and said: Ali ibn Ibrahim narrated to me, from Muhammad ibn Isa, from Muhammad ibn Fudayl, from Abu Hamzah, from Abu Ja‘far (al-Baqir) , who said: “By Allah, since the time He took Adam from the world, Allah has not left the Earth without an Imam on it, through whom one is guided toward Allah and who is His proof over His servants. And the Earth does not remain without an Imam who is the proof of Allah over His servants.”

وَرَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ بَابَوَيْهِ [ت381ه] فِي «عِلَلِ الشَّرَائِعِ»[3]، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ زَيْدٍ الشَّحَّامِ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْعَلَا، عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ الثُّمَالِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ: «مَا خَلَتِ الدُّنْيَا مُنْذُ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ مِنْ إِمَامٍ عَدْلٍ إِلَى أَنْ تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ حُجَّةٍ لِلَّهِ فِيهَا عَلَى خَلْقِهِ».
Translation:
Also, Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Babawayh [d. 381 AH] has narrated in the book Ilal al-Shara’i‘ and said: My father (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Isa, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, from Zayd al-Shahham, from Dawud ibn Ala’, from Abu Hamzah al-Thumali, who said: He said: “Since the time Allah created the heavens and the Earth, the world has not been without a just Imam until the Day of Judgment arrives. And he is a proof for Allah in it over His servants.”
