Verse No. 22
“No generation is empty of a tongue of truth for Ibrahim
. And he is a scholar from his offspring, who reminds and explains his creed.”
Translation:
Allah Almighty has said, quoting from Ibrahim :
And place a tongue of truth for me among later generations.
Considerations
Translation:
Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Harawi informed us, he said: I asked Mansoor about the supplication of Ibrahim , who said: “And place a tongue of truth for me among later generations.” So he said: “What do they say?” I said: “They say he meant a good name.” He said: “It is not as they say. A person’s tongue among people is nothing but one who speaks on his behalf; if he is truthful, he is a tongue of truth for that person among them. ‘So what is the matter with these people who hardly understand any word?!’” Then he said: “No generation is empty of a tongue of truth for Ibrahim
. And he is a scholar from his offspring, who reminds and explains his creed until the Day of Judgment arrives.”
Translation:
Abd al-Salam ibn Abd al-Qayyum al-Balkhi informed us, he said: I said to Mansoor: “We do not know what Ibrahim meant by this statement of his: ‘And place a tongue of truth for me among later generations.’” So he said: “In your view, Is the tongue not something that speaks?!” I said: “It is.” He said: “Then his intended meaning is a speaker from his offspring, who speaks on his behalf; he then speaks the truth. And this is like the statement of one of you who says: ‘My tongue among you is so-and-so,’ whenever he speaks the truth on his behalf. So Ibrahim
asked Allah to place someone for him in every generation of posterity who would teach them his way, free from any impurity. Then what he asked for was granted to him, and he is a tongue of truth for Ibrahim
among posterity.”
