Verse No. 14

“The two portions of His mercy are the Book and the Sunnah, and the light is an Imam who clarifies these two for them.”

قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى:

﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَآمِنُوا بِرَسُولِهِ يُؤْتِكُمْ كِفْلَيْنِ مِنْ رَحْمَتِهِ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ نُورًا تَمْشُونَ بِهِ﴾[1]

Translation:

Allah Almighty has said:

“O you who believed! Fear Allah and believe in His Messenger so that He grants you two portions of His mercy and places for you a light to walk by.”

Consideration

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْهَرَوِيُّ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ الْمَنْصُورَ عَنْ قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَآمِنُوا بِرَسُولِهِ يُؤْتِكُمْ كِفْلَيْنِ مِنْ رَحْمَتِهِ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ نُورًا تَمْشُونَ بِهِ﴾، فَقَالَ: كِفْلَانِ مِنْ رَحْمَتِهِ هُمَا الْكِتَابُ وَالسُّنَّةُ، وَالنُّورُ إِمَامٌ يُبَيِّنُهُمَا حَتَّى تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ، فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَآمِنُوا بِرَسُولِهِ يُؤْتِكُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالسُّنَّةَ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ إِمَامًا يُبَيِّنُهُمَا لَكُمْ حَتَّى تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ.

Translation:

Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Harawi informed us, he said: I asked Mansoor about the statement of Allah Almighty Who says: “O you who believed! Fear Allah and believe in His Messenger so that He grants you two portions of His mercy and places for you a light to walk by.” So he said: “The two portions of His mercy are the Book and the Sunnah, and the light is an Imam who clarifies these two for them until the Day of Judgment arrives. So fear Allah and believe in His Messenger so that He grants you the Book and the Sunnah and appoints an Imam for you who clarifies these two for you until the Day of Judgment arrives.”
