Hadith No. 9
The earth does not remain without the proof of Allah over people for even a single day.
رَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ بَابَوَيْهِ [ت381ه] فِي «كَمَالِ الدِّينِ وَتَمَامِ النِّعْمَةِ»[1]، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ الْمُتَوَكِّلِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْحِمْيَرِيُّ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدٍ الْكُنَاسِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ -يَعْنِي مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ- عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ:
لَيْسَ تَبْقَى الْأَرْضُ -يَا أَبَا خَالِدٍ- يَوْمًا وَاحِدًا بِغَيْرِ حُجَّةٍ لِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ، وَلَمْ تَبْقَ مُنْذُ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ آدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَأَسْكَنَهَ الْأَرْضَ.
Translation:
Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Bābawayh [Died in 381 AH] has narrated in the book of “Kamāl al-Din wa Tamām al-Ni’mah”, (in this way that) has said: Muhammad ibn Musā ibn Mutawakkil may God be pleased with him, narrated to us, he said: Abdullah ibn Ja’far al-Himyari narrated to us, he said: Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isā narrated to us, from Hasan ibn Mahbub, from Hisham ibn Sālim, from Yazid al-Kunāsi that said: Abu Ja’far — meaning Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Husayn — peace be upon him said:
O Abā Khālid! The earth does not remain without the proof of God over people even for one day, and since when God Almighty created Adam peace be upon him and made him dwell on the earth, it has not remained (without the proof of God over people even for one day).
Attestation No. 1
وَرَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْكُلَيْنِيُّ [ت329ه] فِي «الْكَافِي»[2]، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ، عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ قَالَ: «وَاللَّهِ مَا تَرَكَ اللَّهُ أَرْضًا مُنْذُ قَبَضَ آدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ إِلَّا وَفِيهَا إِمَامٌ يُهْتَدَى بِهِ إِلَى اللَّهِ، وَهُوَ حُجَّتُهُ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ، وَلَا تَبْقَى الْأَرْضُ بِغَيْرِ إِمَامٍ حُجَّةٍ لِلَّهِ عَلَى عِبَادِهِ».
Translation:
Also, Muhammad ibn Ya’qub al-Kulayni [Died in 329 AH] has narrated in the book of “Al-Kafi”, has said: Ali ibn Ibrahim narrated to me, from Muhammad ibn Isā, from Muhammad ibn Fudhayl, from Abu Hamzah, from Abu Ja’far (al-Bāqir) peace be upon him that said: I swear to God, God, since He has taken Adam peace be upon him away from this world, has not left the earth be unless therein has been an Imam through whom one finds guidance toward God, and he is His proof over His servants, and the earth does not remain without an Imam who be the proof of God over His servants.
Attestation No. 2
وَرَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ بَابَوَيْهِ [ت381ه] فِي «عِلَلِ الشَّرَائِعِ»[3]، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ زَيْدٍ الشَّحَّامِ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْعَلَا، عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ الثُّمَالِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ: «مَا خَلَتِ الدُّنْيَا مُنْذُ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ مِنْ إِمَامٍ عَدْلٍ إِلَى أَنْ تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ حُجَّةٍ لِلَّهِ فِيهَا عَلَى خَلْقِهِ».
Translation:
Also, Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Bābawayh [Died in 381 AH] has narrated in the book of “Ilal al-Sharā’I”, has said: My father may God bless him, narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Yahyā narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Isā, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, from Zayd al-Shahhām, from Dawud ibn al-Alā, from Abu Hamzah al-Thumāli that said: He said: The world, since God has created the skies and the earth, has not been empty of a just Imam until the day of resurrection arrives, and he is a proof for God therein over His servants.
