Authentic Hadiths from the Ahl al-Bayt About It

Hadith No. 11

“Since the time Adam (peace be upon him) passed away, Allah has not left the Earth without an Imam.”

Translation:

Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Babawayh [d. 381 AH] has narrated in the book Kamal al-Din Wa Tamam al-Ni‘mah, (in this manner that) he has said: My father and Muhammad ibn Hasan narrated to us, they said: Sa‘d ibn Abdullah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Isa, from Safwan ibn Yahya, from the first Abu al-Hasan—meaning Musa ibn Ja‘far (peace be upon them)—who said:

Since the time Adam (peace be upon him) passed away, Allah, Exalted and Majestic, has not left the Earth without an Imam, through whom one is guided toward Allah, Exalted and Majestic, and who is the proof over servants. Whoever abandons him goes astray, and whoever accompanies him is saved. This is a right upon Allah, Exalted and Majestic.
