Translation of the letter:

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

Praise be to Allah that there is no god but He; the Just Who does no wrong, the Mighty Who does not weaken, the Knowledgeable Who is not unaware, the Awake Who does not sleep, and the Alive Who never dies; the Inherently Praiseworthy, the Pure from all defects and faults; the Self-Standing, the Ever-Standing; the Hidden in the utmost of manifestation, the Manifest behind a thousand veils; the One Who created the heavens, the earth, and whatever is between them in six days to be evidence for His Lordship; the One Who created the Angels with His mercy and power and made them dwell in the stars and planets so that they glorify and serve Him; the One Who created the human being with His wisdom and power and made him superior to many of His created beings so that he knows and worships Him. Then He made him dwell in His Heaven and granted him every blessing until he transgressed and disobeyed, so He banished him to a rugged earth so that he may appreciate Heaven and learn obedience, and He made a covenant with him that he should follow the guidance that comes to him from Him so that he does not fear nor grieve nor go astray nor fall into misery; as He has said: ﴿قُلْنَا اهْبِطُوا مِنْهَا جَمِيعًا ۖ فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ مِنِّي هُدًى فَمَنْ تَبِعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ[1]; “We said: ‘Go down, all of you, from (Heaven) , so whenever a guidance comes to you from Me, then whoever follows My guidance, no fear shall come upon him, nor shall he grieve,’” and said: ﴿فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ مِنِّي هُدًى فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشْقَى[2]; “So whenever a guidance comes to you from Me, then whoever follows My guidance neither goes astray nor falls into misery,” and this covenant was a key that God gave to the human being to open the closed doors of salvation and return to his first place. Then on this rugged earth, mothers gave birth, children grew up, generations came after generations, and people increased and scattered in mountains, deserts, forests, and seas, and they gradually forgot their history, strayed from their Creator, disregarded their kinship, and some of them became enemies to some others; as God has informed them before and said to them: ﴿قَالَ اهْبِطُوا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ ۖ وَلَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمَتَاعٌ إِلَى حِينٍ[3]; “He said: ‘Go down (from Heaven)! Some of you (will be) enemies to some others, and there will be for you on the earth a dwelling place and enjoyment for a while,’” but they supposed that their enjoyment on the earth would not come to an end, nor would they return to their Lord. So some of them sought superiority over some others, and some of them oppressed some others until they filled the land and sea with corruption; as God Almighty has said: ﴿ظَهَرَ الْفَسَادُ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِي النَّاسِ[4]; “Corruption has emerged on land and sea because of what the hands of people have earned”; because some of them killed some others, some of them enslaved some others, some of them drove some others out of their homes, and some of them stole the belongings of some others, and in this way, the earth was filled with their oppression and cruelty.

Then God chose Prophets from among them, sent them to them with clear signs, and sent down with them the Book and the Balance so that people would stop transgression and rise for justice; as He has said: ﴿لَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ وَأَنْزَلْنَا مَعَهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْمِيزَانَ لِيَقُومَ النَّاسُ بِالْقِسْطِ[5]; “Indeed, We sent Our Messengers with clear signs and sent down with them the Book and the Balance so that people rise for justice,” and this was the purpose of the delegation of the Prophets; because God was Just, created the world based on justice, and liked justice to be established in it; as He has said: ﴿وَالسَّمَاءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ الْمِيزَانَ ۝ أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا فِي الْمِيزَانِ ۝ وَأَقِيمُوا الْوَزْنَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا الْمِيزَانَ[6]; “He raised the heaven and set the Balance; so that you, too, do not transgress the Balance; and measure with justice and do not violate the Balance.” So He sent the Prophets to stand against oppression and command others to maintain justice, and He sent down iron so that they would hold it and fight against those who try to eliminate justice in the world; as He has said: ﴿وَأَنْزَلْنَا الْحَدِيدَ فِيهِ بَأْسٌ شَدِيدٌ وَمَنَافِعُ لِلنَّاسِ[7]; “And We send down iron, in which there is mighty strength and benefits for people”; because the world has been created based on justice, and it will not be put in order except by justice. Indeed, oppression destroys the world, disrupts the order of creation, and drags the earth into ruin, and never has God wanted it for people of the worlds; as He has said: ﴿وَمَا اللَّهُ يُرِيدُ ظُلْمًا لِلْعَالَمِينَ[8]; “And God desires no oppression to people of the worlds.” Since the first day, He has set for everything a “measure” and a “place” proportional to its measure in order for it to be placed in it and not go out of it to cause corruption; as He has said: ﴿قَدْ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدْرًا[9]; “God has set a measure for everything,” and said: ﴿وَخَلَقَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ فَقَدَّرَهُ تَقْدِيرًا[10]; “and He created everything and determined its measure,” and said: ﴿إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَاهُ بِقَدَرٍ[11]; “Indeed, We created everything according to a measure,” and the measure of everything is the talent that God has set for it, and therefore, justice is that everything knows its measure and is placed in the place that God has set for it, and oppression is that a thing does not know its measure, goes out of its place, and occupies another place that God has not set for it, and oppression is the father of corruption. Therefore, God did not send His Prophets except to remind people of their measures so that people would know their measures, find their places, be placed in the places that God has set for each one of them, and not go out of their places or occupy the places of others that were not proportional to their measures, and by doing so, they would not oppress each other, nor would they spread corruption on the earth. Therefore, with the permission of God, the Prophets informed people of their measures, which were their talents, invited them toward justice, and prevented them from oppression so that they would fill their places on the earth, some of them would not occupy the places of some others, would fulfill their talents, and some of them would not prevent the fulfillment of the talents of some others so that in this way, they all would achieve their perfection and the world would be filled with justice after it had been filled with oppression.

Therefore, the Prophets came one after another with guidance and clear signs, spoke to every nation in its language, and called out justice in the four corners of this vast earth, in mountains, deserts, forests, and seas, and they fought against oppression with their tongues and hands, but people, who had forgotten the covenant on the day of banishment and lost their salvation key, denied them and did not answer their invitation; because they did not know their measures, nor were they satisfied with their places, and some of them sought superiority over some others, were accustomed to oppression and corruption, and followed their eminent elders on the earth, and their eminent elders on the earth tried to remove the Prophets from it; because they knew that they were sitting in the places of others, and if they had submitted to justice, they should have got up from the places that they were sitting in and left eminence for those whom God had made eminent; those who had been considered weak on the earth and persecuted by them! Therefore, no Prophet came from God unless the eminent elders of people denied and stood against him so that he would not come forth; as He has said: ﴿وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا فِي قَرْيَةٍ مِنْ نَذِيرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتْرَفُوهَا إِنَّا بِمَا أُرْسِلْتُمْ بِهِ كَافِرُونَ[12]; “And We never sent a warner to a land unless its elite said: ‘We are disbelievers to what you were sent for,’” and I swear to God, what the warners were sent for was justice, which the eminent elders of lands would not tolerate; because justice has always been to the detriment of the arrogant and to the benefit of the oppressed and has brought those down and raised these up! Therefore, they beheaded some, burned some, threw some to hungry lions, threw some from high mountains, and drove some out of their lands, and all this was because they did not tolerate justice and feared its establishment! To the extent that Prophet Nuh, peace be upon him, invited them for nine hundred and fifty years, and only eighty people answered him, eight of whom were his family, and it happened that the Children of Israel killed seventy pure Prophets in one night before sunrise, and then they went to their works and the date seller shouted: “Date! Date!”

In this way, the Prophets came after the Prophets, invited people toward justice, and were denied and oppressed until it was the turn of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him and his family, the last one of them and the successor to them. God sent him after a long period during which no Prophet had been sent and no revelation had been revealed; Heavenly Books had been distorted and good traditions had been altered; the paths of salvation had been hidden and the flags of guidance had fallen; people worshipped idols and wandered in the darkness of superstitions and illusions; they lived and died in ignorance; they did not know their measures and oppressed each other. In such a time, God sent His Prophet and sent the Book down to him. So He communicated the message of his Lord as he should and patiently endured in this path as it deserved; he conveyed what was entrusted to him of the message of justice and carried out what he was commanded to do of the establishment of justice; as God Almighty has said: ﴿قُلْ أَمَرَ رَبِّي بِالْقِسْطِ[13]; “Say: ‘My Lord has commanded justice,’” and said: ﴿وَأُمِرْتُ لِأَعْدِلَ بَيْنَكُمُ[14]; “And I have been commanded to establish justice among you.” So he invited toward justice and strived to establish it among people, but the disbelievers of Mecca did not answer his invitation, and the hypocrites of Medina spoiled his effort until God was pleased with His side for him, took his pure soul to Himself, and had it join the souls of the Prophets before him; ﴿إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ[15]; “We belong to God and to Him we shall return.” This was indeed the end of the chain of Prophethood and the closing of the gate of revelation, but it was the unchangeable way of God that He would not leave the earth for a single day without His Caliph on it who would make justice possible on it; as He has said: ﴿إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً[16]; “Indeed, I am the Appointer of a Caliph on the earth.” Therefore, He did not take His Prophet from among people until He appointed Caliphs for after him and informed people of their measures and places so that they would be the guides of justice and its establishers after him and accomplish his work and fulfill his effort, and they were indeed his family, his Ahl al-Bayt, whom He has informed of His will to purify them, made affection for them obligatory for His servants, and said about them: ﴿إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا[17]; “Indeed, God wants to remove any impurity from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and make you completely pure,” and said: ﴿قُلْ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَى[18]; “Say: ‘I do not ask you for any reward but affection for my relatives,’” while he has said: ﴿قُلْ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا ۖ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَى لِلْعَالَمِينَ[19]; “Say: ‘I do not ask you for any reward, it is but a reminder for people of the worlds,’” and said: ﴿قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِلَّا مَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يَتَّخِذَ إِلَى رَبِّهِ سَبِيلًا[20]; “Say: ‘I do not ask you for any reward except that whoever wishes, let him take the path toward his Lord.’” So He has made affection for them a reminder for people of the worlds and a path toward Himself, and made their purity from any impurity the support for it to test His servants after His Prophet, as He tested them before him, in order to know those of them who obey Him and to know the disobedient, while whoever obeys Him, it is for his own benefit; as He has said: ﴿قُلْ مَا سَأَلْتُكُمْ مِنْ أَجْرٍ فَهُوَ لَكُمْ[21]; “Say: ‘The reward I asked of you is for yourselves.’”

Indeed, God’s Caliphs on the earth are those who have been guided to the measure and place of everything on it and completely purified from any oppression so that they put everything in the place that God has set for it by the support of their purity, thus establishing justice and eliminating oppression; as God Almighty has said: ﴿وَمِمَّنْ خَلَقْنَا أُمَّةٌ يَهْدُونَ بِالْحَقِّ وَبِهِ يَعْدِلُونَ[22]; “And among those We have created there are some who guide with the truth and establish justice with it,” and they are indeed the family of the Prophet, his Ahl al-Bayt, whom he has informed people about their measures, guided them toward their places, and said about them before his demise: «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ! [23]; “O people! I am about to be called, then I will respond while I am responsible and you are responsible; so I will leave among you two Caliphs: the Book of God and my family, my Ahl al-Bayt; if you hold firmly to those two, you will never go astray after me, so see how you treat those two after me, and those two will never be separated until they come to me by the Pond; the Subtle, the Aware One has informed me of this.” But alas, when he was called toward God and responded, most of them did not hold firmly to those two; because they supposed that the Book of God was sufficient for them and they would not need the Prophet’s family, his Ahl al-Bayt! So they forgot the measures of his family, his Ahl al-Bayt, and occupied their places, and this was where the misguidance of the Ummah began, and the flood of their misery flew! Did God not make a covenant with them in His Book that they should follow His guidance so that they would not fall into misery, and did His Prophet not make a covenant with them in his Sunnah that they should hold firmly to the Book of God and his family, his Ahl al-Bayt, so that they would not go astray?! Then what made them forget the covenant of God and violate the covenant of His Prophet?! They were indeed the wrongdoers!

After that, this Ummah became like a wandering flock that lost its shepherd, and wolves did not know from which side they would rip it apart! People sank into darkness and abandoned their religion in droves. Traditions were forgotten and destructive innovations emerged. Young Islam was turned upside down like a leather garment that was worn inside out until people returned to their first ignorance and revived the dead ways of the time of ignorance. They forced Hasan to make peace and Husain to make war, killed Husain’s pure sons who commanded justice, and replaced them with those who had no share of their measures; as if they had not heard the words of God Almighty that has said: ﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْفُرُونَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَيَقْتُلُونَ النَّبِيِّينَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ وَيَقْتُلُونَ الَّذِينَ يَأْمُرُونَ بِالْقِسْطِ مِنَ النَّاسِ فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ۝ أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَمَا لَهُمْ مِنْ نَاصِرِينَ[24]; “Indeed, those who deny the signs of God and kill the Prophets unrightfully and kill those who enjoin others to justice, give them tidings of a painful punishment; they are the ones whose deeds came to nothing in the world and the Hereafter, and they have no supporters.”

Then the result of this obstinacy was that tyrants after tyrants, fools after fools, sinners after sinners, and heretics after heretics dominated the Ummah, and each one of them took their belongings and souls to some extent and did not give any of the Imams from the Prophet’s family, his Ahl al-Bayt, the opportunity to stand firm on his feet and quench the dry mouths of the oppressed with the sip of justice! Each one of them, using a trick, fabricated legitimacy for himself and made an excuse for them, and then, riding on the chariot of power, attacked the first and the last of the Ummah and threw the religion of God down the slope of annihilation, and in the meantime, the ignorant, who had always paid a heavy price for their ignorance, helped some oppressors against some others and replaced an oppressive government with another oppressive government; as God Almighty has said: ﴿وَكَذَلِكَ نُوَلِّي بَعْضَ الظَّالِمِينَ بَعْضًا بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ[25]; “Thus We let some oppressors have power over some others because of what they earned.”

Until it was the Mahdi’s turn, the Day of Judgment approached, and the hearts were hardened. So God sent one of His servants from where the sun rises, with wisdom and good advice, to remind them of His covenant and invite them toward His Caliph on the earth from His Prophet’s family, his Ahl al-Bayt, so that they may return, and I am that servant. So answer my invitation and return toward the Mahdi so that your sins may be forgiven and your works may be put in order before a day comes to you that came to Aad, Thamud, and the people of Nuh.

﴿وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الْهُدَى[26]; “And peace be upon whoever followed the guidance.”
