Translation of the letter:

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Praise be to Allah who there is no god but He; the Just who does not oppress, the Mighty who does not weaken, the Knowledgeable who does not forget, the Wakeful who does not sleep, the Alive who does not die; the inherently Praiseworthy, pure from all defects and faults; the Self-Standing, the Ever-Standing; the Hidden in the utmost of manifestation, the Manifest behind a thousand veils; the One who created the skies and the earth and whatever is between them in six days in order to be evidence of His Lordship; the One who created the Angels by His mercy and power, and put them in the stars and planets so that they praise and serve Him; the One who created the human being by His wisdom and power, and made him superior to many of His creations so that he knows and worships Him. Then He made him dwell in His Heaven and granted him every blessing, until he sought superiority and disobeyed, so He banished him to a rugged earth so that he appreciates Heaven and learns obedience; then He made a covenant with him that he should follow the guidance that comes to him from Him so that he would not be saddened nor frightened nor misled nor miserable; as He has said: ﴿قُلْنَا اهْبِطُوا مِنْهَا جَمِيعًا ۖ فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ مِنِّي هُدًى فَمَنْ تَبِعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ﴾[1]; “We said, go down, all of you, from it (Heaven) , so whenever a guidance comes to you from Me, then whoever follows My guidance, no fear shall come upon them, nor shall they be saddened”, and said: ﴿فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ مِنِّي هُدًى فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشْقَى﴾[2]; “So whenever a guidance comes to you from Me, then whoever follows My guidance will not be misled nor miserable”, and this covenant was a key that God gave to the human being so that he opens the closed doors of salvation and returns toward his first place. Then in this rugged earth, mothers gave birth, children grew up, generations came after generations, people increased and were scattered in the mountains, deserts, forests and seas, and gradually they forgot their history and lost their Creator and ignored their kinship and some of them became enemies of some others; as God has informed them before and said: ﴿قَالَ اهْبِطُوا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ ۖ وَلَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمَتَاعٌ إِلَى حِينٍ﴾[3]; “He said, go down (from Heaven)! Some of you will become enemies of some others, and there will be for you on the earth a dwelling place, and enjoyment for a while”, but they thought their enjoyment on the earth is everlasting and they will not return toward their Lord. So some of them sought superiority over some others, and some of them oppressed some others, until they filled land and see with corruption; as God Almighty has said: ﴿ظَهَرَ الْفَسَادُ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِي النَّاسِ﴾[4]; “Corruption has emerged on land and sea because of what the hands of people have earned”; because some of them killed some others, some of them enslaved some others, some of them drove out some others from their lands, some of them plundered some others, and thus, the earth became full of their oppression and cruelty.

Then God selected some Prophets from among them and sent toward them with clear signs and sent down the Book and the Balance with them so that people abandon oppression and rise for justice; as He has said: ﴿لَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ وَأَنْزَلْنَا مَعَهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْمِيزَانَ لِيَقُومَ النَّاسُ بِالْقِسْطِ ۖ﴾[5]; “Indeed, We sent Our Messengers with clear signs and sent down with them the Book and the Balance so that people rise for justice”, and this was the purpose of the delegation of the Prophets; because God Himself is Just, and He created the world based on justice and liked justice to be established in it; as He has said: ﴿وَالسَّمَاءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ الْمِيزَانَ ۝ أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا فِي الْمِيزَانِ ۝ وَأَقِيمُوا الْوَزْنَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا الْمِيزَانَ﴾[6]; “He raised the sky and set the Balance; so that you, too, do not transgress the Balance; and measure with justice and do not violate the Balance”. So He sent the Prophets so that they fight against oppression and urge others to rise for justice, and He sent down iron so that they hold it and fight against those who try to eliminate justice in the world; as He has said: ﴿وَأَنْزَلْنَا الْحَدِيدَ فِيهِ بَأْسٌ شَدِيدٌ وَمَنَافِعُ لِلنَّاسِ﴾[7]; because the world has been created based on justice, and it will not be put in order except by justice. Indeed, oppression destroys the world, disrupts the system of creation, and ruins the earth, and God has never wanted it for the worlds; as He has said: ﴿وَمَا اللَّهُ يُرِيدُ ظُلْمًا لِلْعَالَمِينَ﴾[8]; “God has never wanted oppression for the worlds”. From the first day, He has set a “measure” for everything and a “place” proportional to its measure so that it is put in it and does not go out of it, lest it causes corruption; as He has said: ﴿قَدْ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدْرًا﴾[9]; “God has set a measure for everything”, and said: ﴿وَخَلَقَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ فَقَدَّرَهُ تَقْدِيرًا﴾[10]; “and He created everything and determined it a precise measure”, and said: ﴿إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَاهُ بِقَدَرٍ﴾[11]; “Indeed, We created everything according to a measure”, and the measure of everything is the talent that God has set for it, and therefore, justice is that everything knows its measure and is put in the place where God has set for it, and oppression is that something does not know its measure and goes out of its place and occupies another place where God has not set for it, and corruption is the child of oppression. Therefore, God did not send His Prophets unless to remind people of their measures so that people know their measures, find their places, and are put in the place where God has set for each of them, and do not go out of their places, nor do they occupy the places of others that do not fit their measures, and by doing so, they do not oppress each other, nor do they cause corruption on the earth. Therefore, with the permission of God, the Prophets made people aware of their measures, which were their talents, and called them toward justice and prevented them from oppression so that they fill their places on the earth, and some of them do not occupy the places of some others, and fulfil their talents, and some of them do not prevent the fulfillment of the talents of some others, so that in this way, all of them may achieve their perfection, and the world may be filled with justice, after it has been filled with oppression.

Therefore, one after another, the Prophets came with guidance and clear signs, and spoke to every nation in their language, and called out “justice” in the four corners of this vast earth, in the mountain and the desert and the forest and the sea, and fought against “oppression” with their tongues and hands, but most of people who had forgotten the covenant on the day of banishment and lost their salvation key denied them, nor did they respond to their invitation; because they did not know their own measures, nor were they satisfied with their own places, and some of them sought superiority over some others, and were accustomed to oppression and corruption, and followed their eminent elders on the earth, and their eminent elders on the earth tried to remove the Prophets from it; because they knew that they sat in the places of others, and if they submitted to justice, they should get up from the places where they sat in and leave eminence to those whom God has made eminent; those who have been considered weak on the earth and oppressed by them! Therefore, no Prophet came from God unless the eminent elders of people denied and stood against him so that he would not come forth; as He has said: ﴿وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا فِي قَرْيَةٍ مِنْ نَذِيرٍ إِلَّا قَالَ مُتْرَفُوهَا إِنَّا بِمَا أُرْسِلْتُمْ بِهِ كَافِرُونَ﴾[12]; “We did not send any warner to a land unless their eminent elders said: We disbelieve in what you have been sent for”, and I swear to God, what the warners were sent for was “justice” that the eminent elders of lands did not tolerate; because justice has always been to the detriment of oppressors and to the benefit of the oppressed, and has brought those down and raised these up! Therefore, they beheaded some and burned some and threw some to the hungry lions and threw some from the high mountain and drove out some from their lands, and this was all because they did not tolerate justice and were afraid of its establishment! To the extent that the Prophet Nuh, peace be upon him, invited them for nine hundred and fifty years, and only eighty people responded to him, eight of whom were his family, and it happened that the children of Israel killed seventy pure Prophets in one night until the rising of the sun, and then they went to their business, and the date seller shouted: Date! Date!

Thus, the Prophets came after the Prophets and called people toward justice and were denied and oppressed, until it was the turn of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him and his family, the last Prophet and the successor to the previous Prophets. God sent him in a time when no Prophet had been sent and no revelation had been revealed for a long time; the Heavenly Books were distorted and good traditions were changed; the paths of salvation were hidden and the flags of guidance fell down; people worshiped idols and wandered in the darkness of illusions and superstitions; they lived and died in ignorance; they did not know their measures and oppressed each other. In such a terrible time, God selected His Prophet and sent down His Book to him. He, too, duly fulfilled the mission of his Lord and patiently endured in this path; he conveyed the message of justice entrusted to him, and carried out the establishment of justice commanded to him; as He has said: ﴿قُلْ أَمَرَ رَبِّي بِالْقِسْطِ ۖ﴾[13]; “Say, my Lord has commanded to justice”, and said: ﴿وَأُمِرْتُ لِأَعْدِلَ بَيْنَكُمُ ۖ﴾[14]; “and I am commanded to establish justice among you”. Therefore, he invited toward justice and tried to establish it among people, but the unbelievers of Mecca did not respond to his invitation, and the hypocrites of Medina spoiled his efforts, until God liked him to be by His side and raised his pure soul up toward Himself and had it join the souls of other Prophets who were before him; ﴿إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ﴾[15]. Indeed, this was the end of the chain of Prophethood and the closing of the gate of revelation, but it was the unchangeable tradition of God to not leave His earth empty even for one day of a Caliph on it, who makes justice possible on it; as He has said: ﴿إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً ۖ﴾[16]; “Indeed, I am the Appointer of a Caliph on the earth”! Therefore, He did not take away His Prophet from among people until He appointed Caliphs for after him, and informed people of their measures and places so that they would be the guides of justice and those who establish it after him and accomplish his work and fulfill his efforts, and they were indeed his household, his Ahl al-Bayt, whom He has informed of His will to purify them, and made amity with them an obligation upon His servants, and said about them: ﴿إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا﴾[17]; “Indeed, God wants to remove any impurity from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and make you completely pure”, and said: ﴿قُلْ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَى ۗ﴾[18]; “Say, I do not ask you for any reward except for amity with my relatives”, while he has said: ﴿قُلْ لَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا ۖ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَى لِلْعَالَمِينَ﴾[19]; “Say: I do not ask you for any reward, it is nothing but a reminder for the worlds”, and said: ﴿قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِلَّا مَنْ شَاءَ أَنْ يَتَّخِذَ إِلَى رَبِّهِ سَبِيلًا﴾[20]; “Say, I do not ask you for any reward except that whoever wishes, let him take the path toward his Lord”! Therefore, He has made amity with them a source of reminding for the worlds and a path toward Himself, and made their purity from any impurity a support for it to test His servants after His Prophet, as He tested them before him, in order to know which of them obey Him and which of them are disobedient, while whoever obeys Him is for his own benefit; as He has said: ﴿قُلْ مَا سَأَلْتُكُمْ مِنْ أَجْرٍ فَهُوَ لَكُمْ ۖ﴾[21]; “Say, the reward I asked you for is for yourselves”!

Indeed, the Caliphs of God on the earth are those who have been guided to the measure and place of everything on it, and purified from every oppression, in order to put everything in the place where God has set for it by the support of their purity, so that they establish justice and eliminate oppression in this way; as God has said: ﴿وَمِمَّنْ خَلَقْنَا أُمَّةٌ يَهْدُونَ بِالْحَقِّ وَبِهِ يَعْدِلُونَ﴾[22]; “And among those We have created there are some who guide with the truth and establish justice with it”, and they are indeed the household of the Prophet, his Ahl al-Bayt, who he has informed people of their measures and guided toward their places and said about them before his demise: «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي أُوشَكُ أَنْ أُدْعَى فَأُجِيبَ وَإِنِّي مَسْؤُولٌ وَأَنْتُمْ مَسْؤُولُونَ فَإِنِّي تَارِكٌ فِيكُمْ خَلِيفَتَيْنِ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَعِتْرَتِي أَهْلَ بَيْتِي إِنْ تَمَسَّكْتُمْ بِهِمَا لَنْ تَضِلُّوا بَعْدِي فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ تَخْلُفُونِي فِيهِمَا وَإِنَّهُمَا لَنْ يَفْتَرِقَا حَتَّى يَرِدَا عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ نَبَّأَنِي بِذَلِكَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ»[23]; “O people! I am about to be called, then I will respond, while I am responsible and you are responsible; indeed, I will leave among you two Caliphs: the Book of God and my household, my Ahl al-Bayt; if you hold firmly to those two, you will never go astray after me; so watch how you treat those two after me, and those two will never be separated until they come to me by the Pond, the Subtle and the Aware has informed me of this”! But alas, when he was called toward God and responded, most of them did not hold firmly to those two; because they thought that the Book of God is sufficient for them and they do not need the household and the Ahl al-Bayt of His Prophet! So they forgot the measures of his household and Ahl al-Bayt and took their places, and this is where the misguidance of the Ummah began, and the flood of their misery flew! Did God not make a covenant with them in His Book that they should follow His guidance so that they would not be miserable?! And did His Prophet not make a covenant with them in his Sunnah that they should hold firmly to the Book of God and his household and Ahl al-Bayt so that they would not go astray?! So what happened that they forgot the covenant of God and violated the covenant of His Prophet?! Indeed, they were undoubtedly wrongdoers.

It was then that this Ummah became like a wandering flock that had lost its shepherd, and the wolves did not know from which side they would tear it apart! People sank into darkness and tuned away from the religion in droves. Traditions were forgotten and destructive bid’ahs emerged. The young Islam was reversed, like a leather garment that was worn inside out, until people returned to their first ignorance and revived the dead methods of ignorance. They forced Hasan to make peace and Husain to make war and killed Husain’s pure children who commanded to justice, one after another, and replaced them with those who had no share of their measures; as if they had not heard the words of God Almighty that has said: ﴿إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَكْفُرُونَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَيَقْتُلُونَ النَّبِيِّينَ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ وَيَقْتُلُونَ الَّذِينَ يَأْمُرُونَ بِالْقِسْطِ مِنَ النَّاسِ فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ۝ أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَمَا لَهُمْ مِنْ نَاصِرِينَ﴾[24]; “Indeed, those who deny the signs of God and kill the Prophets unrightfully and kill those who enjoin others to justice, give them tidings of a painful punishment; they are those whose deeds were ignored in the world and in the Hereafter, and they have no helpers”.

Then the result of this obstinacy was that tyrants after tyrants, fools after fools, sinners after sinners, and heretics after heretics dominated the Ummah, and each of them robbed an amount of their belongings and souls, and did not give the opportunity to any of the Imams of the household and the Ahl al-Bayt of the Prophet to stand firm on his two feet for a while and quench the dry mouths of the oppressed with sips of justice! Each of them, by a trick, fabricated legitimacy for himself and made excuses for them and then, riding the chariot of power, attacked the first and the last of the Ummah, and threw the religion of God into the slope of annihilation, and in the meantime, the ignorant, who have always paid the heavy price for their ignorance, helped some oppressors against some others, and replaced an oppressive government with another oppressive government; as God Almighty has said: ﴿وَكَذَلِكَ نُوَلِّي بَعْضَ الظَّالِمِينَ بَعْضًا بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ﴾[25]; “Thus We let some oppressors have power over others because of what they earned”!

Until it was Mahdi’s turn and the Day of Judgment approached and hearts were hardened. So God selected one of His servants from where the sun rises, with wisdom and good advice, so that he reminds them of His covenant and invites them toward His Caliph on the earth from the household and the Ahl al-Bayt of His Prophet, may they return, and I am that servant. So respond to my invitation and return toward Mahdi, so that your sins may be forgiven, and your works may be put in order, before a day comes to you that came to Aad and Thamud and the people of Nuh.
