4	19	Imitation After reading the book Return to Islam, I have some questions, a few of which I will ask as my patience allows. Thank you in advance for your honest response. On page 57 of the book, it has been stated as a rejection of imitating scholars: “Their disagreements with each other about their sayings and action are deep and numerous; whereas the truth is surely a unitary saying and action and cannot become plural or multiplied. Therefore, following them, on the one hand, is contradictory and meaningless, and on the other hand, it leads to disagreement among Muslims; as it has already led to it; because the disagreement among Muslims about their beliefs and deeds, more than anything else, is due to their following different scholars.” However, this statement itself indicates the possibility of disagreement even between two individuals who do not imitate anyone but rather gain an understanding of religion through studying the Quran and the Sunnah. Therefore, it cannot be said that gaining an understanding of religion leads Muslims to a single perception, while according to the book, only one perception is considered correct. This means that we will always have Muslims who do not have a correct perception despite gaining an understanding of religion. This is also true if they do not gain an understanding of religion! What is the difference then between gaining an understanding of religion and not doing so?! Another question is that after the previous passage, it has been stated: “Following them is based on their followers’ conjecture about the compatibility of their sayings and actions with Sharia.” Unfortunately, despite emphasizing rational certainty, the author has not provided any evidence for this point. It is worth noting that if someone goes to scholars and asks them for evidence from the Quran and the Sunnah for their fatwas, they will not refuse and will present it to him. Thank you.	2015-03-23
3	17	Imitation Regarding the issue of imitation, while the explanations provided in some discussions are correct, some others lack proper explanation. It is true that Allah has not commanded imitating scholars in any verse. He has encouraged seeking knowledge and warned against bad scholars. However, He has advised the illiterate and those unable to understand the verses of the Quran to go to divine and righteous scholars. Blind and unconditional imitation is rejected. However, imitating those who are righteous and close to Allah is permissible and necessary for those who cannot read or understand the verses of the Quran. If His Eminence Mansoor’s view is that imitating any scholar in any form is rejected, how can he expect people to follow him and unite in his support to prepare the ground for the Mahdi’s advent?!	2015-02-22
2	16	Obligation of acquiring knowledge (ijtihad) and its method In the book Return to Islam, His Eminence Mansoor has said that ijtihad is obligatory for every Muslim. However, every human being has a unique aspiration and talent. Some have an aspiration and talent for medicine, some for engineering, and some for other fields. Therefore, they cannot practice ijtihad in religion. What should one who does not have an aspiration and talent for practicing ijtihad do? Is it not permissible for him to imitate one of the mujtahids?	2015-02-22
1	1	Imitation If, according to Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani, most hadiths are conjectural except for a few, and personal opinion is not valid either, then how can I know the religious rulings except by imitating scholars?! While I read in the Quran: «إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَوْقُوتًا» (An-Nisa/ 103); “Undoubtedly, prayer is obligatory for believers at specific times,” and I read in it: «يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ» (Al-Baqarah/ 183); “O you who believed! Fasting has been prescribed for you,” and I read in it the command to perform other deeds; therefore, I know that these deeds are obligatory for me. How can I know the rulings of these obligatory deeds if I am not allowed to imitate scholars or act according to my opinion?! Should I abandon them now and go prepare the ground for the advent of Allah’s caliph on the Earth by reforming myself and gathering a sufficient number of people, and then perform prayer, fasting, and other obligations?
