Critique & Response

I read the book of His Excellency Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani. I read some parts several times and skimmed through some faster. Honestly, considering the amount of knowledge I have about religious sciences, I saw no problem with it, and almost all of it is truths that he has reminded us of. But the main question is, how can we be sure that he himself follows these truths in practice and with certainty, and not like me, a lowly servant who may be a sinner and lacking in faith? Considering that we have not yet seen his actions with our eyes and clear evidence. Of course, according to the Holy Quran, we cannot deny everything that we have not seen, and belief in the unseen is a sign of faith. Perhaps one of evidence is that he is the promised Mansoor al-Khorasani, and according to the authentic and mutawatir narration from the Prophet and the Imams, he follows the truth in practice and with certainty in addition to the fact that he speaks the truth.

O fair and free brother!

The existence of men like you, who seek to know the truth and adhere to it, away from ignorance, imitation, worldliness, passions, fanaticism, arrogance, and superstitionism, by holding on to the Book of God and the authentic and mutawatir Sunnah of His Prophet, without losing their insight and freedom against the existing insinuations and doubts, is a blessing that delights and encourages us; because it indicates that the world is not devoid of “people of understating,” and there are always wise and free men in its corners, with whom we can hope to gather a sufficient number of men to support the Mahdi, peace be upon him.

As for answering your main question, in which you have said: “How can we be sure that Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani himself follows these truths in practice and with certainty,” it must be said:

firstly, you do not need this certainty to follow these truths; because these truths are based on the Book of God, the mutawatir Sunnah of His Prophet, and what sound intellect dictates, and they do not depend on the practice and certainty of Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani; in the sense that whether he follows them “in practice and with certainty” or not, you must follow them because they are truths; considering that his failure to follow them “in practice and with certainty” does not change their nature, nor does it justify your failure to follow them “in practice and with certainty”; because every person is responsible for his practice, and a person’s failure to follow truths does not invalidate them or take away the responsibility from others; as every Prophet has said so to his people: ﴿قَدْ جَاءَكُمْ بَصَائِرُ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ ۖ فَمَنْ أَبْصَرَ فَلِنَفْسِهِ ۖ وَمَنْ عَمِيَ فَعَلَيْهَا ۚ وَمَا أَنَا عَلَيْكُمْ بِحَفِيظٍ[1]; “The sources of insight have come to you from your Lord, so whoever gains insight has done so for his own good, and whoever becomes blind has done so to his own loss, and I am not a guardian over you.”

Secondly, it is not probable that Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani does not follow the truths that he himself has extracted and revived after centuries of concealment with the utmost hardship and amidst dangers; because it is far from the intellect, custom, and habit that a person risks his life, properties, and reputation to reveal truths that he himself does not follow “in practice and with certainty,” but rather this act itself embodies his following these truths “in practice and with certainty”; because revealing these truths after their concealment, despite all its dangers and hardships, is not merely a simple statement in the view of the wise, but rather it has a complete practical form and is a clear example of rising against innovations and deviations and striving to establish the pure and perfect Islam in the world, and this cannot be achieved except with a firm certainty.

Thirdly, regardless of the practical and certain nature of revealing truths, free from any distortions or deviations, which bears resemblance to a signboard fixed above it, its verbalistic and theoretical nature is a clear example of “wisdom,” while wisdom emanates only from God and is given only to those who have the necessary practice and certainty; as He has said: ﴿يُؤْتِي الْحِكْمَةَ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَمَنْ يُؤْتَ الْحِكْمَةَ فَقَدْ أُوتِيَ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا ۗ وَمَا يَذَّكَّرُ إِلَّا أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ[2]; “He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has been given great good, and only people of understanding take heed,” and gave wisdom to Dawud, peace be upon him, and said: ﴿وَآتَيْنَاهُ الْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ الْخِطَابِ[3]; “And We gave him wisdom and decisive speech,” and gave wisdom to Luqman, peace be upon him, and said: ﴿وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا لُقْمَانَ الْحِكْمَةَ أَنِ اشْكُرْ لِلَّهِ[4]; “And indeed, We gave wisdom to Luqman (saying,) ‘Be grateful to God,’” and gave wisdom to Isa, peace be upon him, and said: ﴿وَلَمَّا جَاءَ عِيسَى بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ قَالَ قَدْ جِئْتُكُمْ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَلِأُبَيِّنَ لَكُمْ بَعْضَ الَّذِي تَخْتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ[5]; “And when Isa came with clear signs, he said: ‘I have brought you wisdom, and that I may make clear to you some of what you disagree about,’” but rather He considered it an inheritance for the family of Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and said: ﴿فَقَدْ آتَيْنَا آلَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ[6]; “Indeed, We have given the Book and wisdom to the family of Ibrahim,” and considered its teaching one of the works of the Prophets and said: ﴿وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَإِنْ كَانُوا مِنْ قَبْلُ لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ[7]; “And he teaches them the Book and wisdom, although they were in manifest error before.” Based on this, through the wisdom of Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani, which is manifested in the book Return to Islam and his other published works, one can gain insight about his practice and certainty; especially considering that the personality of each person is derived from his thoughts, manifested in his goals, and known by his concerns, and his character is concealed beneath his tongue; as God has said: ﴿وَلَتَعْرِفَنَّهُمْ فِي لَحْنِ الْقَوْلِ[8]; “And you will indeed know them by the manner of speech,” but rather the practice of every individual is mostly based on his knowledge, and correct knowledge requires righteous practice. Therefore, guiding the human being to “the pure saying” requires guiding him to “the praiseworthy path”; as God has said: ﴿وَهُدُوا إِلَى الطَّيِّبِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ وَهُدُوا إِلَى صِرَاطِ الْحَمِيدِ[9]; “And they were guided to the pure saying and were guided to the praiseworthy path.”

As a result, your uncertainty about following Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani in the truths he invites to, on the one hand, does not prevent you from following these truths, and on the other hand, it can be remedied by looking at the practical and certain aspects of his invitation toward them and the correlation that exists between this unique wisdom and communication with God “in practice and with certainty.” Also, it is hereby understood that the certainty about following Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani in these truths “in practice and with certainty,” although it is not necessary, does not depend on the certainty of his being the promised one; because despite some Muslims from among people of knowledge consider him the promised one who prepares the ground for the advent of the Mahdi, peace be upon him, and believe that this is clear in view of his rational, practical, and apparent characteristics, and there is no need for doubts and arguments about it, he does not direct his concern to such a claim. He only prepares the ground for the advent of the Mahdi, peace be upon him, in a practical and realistic manner, and believes that the rational and religious necessity to accompany him in this regard is based on this practical and realistic preparation, not on his claim of being the promised one; because there are many who claim to be the promised ones, but there is not a single person who prepares the ground for the Mahdi’s advent in a practical and realistic manner! Considering that claimants have no concern but to prove their claim and do nothing but argue about who they are and what their status and virtue are, while it is clear that the dignity of Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani is far greater than such selfish acts, and he is occupied with a more important work, which is teaching the pure and perfect Islam to Muslims of the world and training a sufficient number of them to help the Mahdi, peace be upon him; the work that if accomplished by him, realizes the advent of the Mahdi, peace be upon him, even if no one considers him the promised preparer for it.

This is a mercy from God Almighty to ease the burden for those who desire to help the Mahdi, peace be upon him, and prepare the ground for his advent, but are afraid of accompanying the claimants due to the predominance of falsehood among them; because Satan assumed that by multiplying false claimants, he could hinder the emergence of truthful people and prevent Muslims from recognizing them; so God thwarted his plan and had the truthful appear without making any claims so that it would be easy for Muslims to recognize them and the false claimants would be exposed; as He has said: ﴿وَقَدْ مَكَرُوا مَكْرَهُمْ وَعِنْدَ اللَّهِ مَكْرُهُمْ وَإِنْ كَانَ مَكْرُهُمْ لِتَزُولَ مِنْهُ الْجِبَالُ[10]; “They planned their plan, but their plan is with God, even if their plan is such that it can remove the mountains,” and said: ﴿وَمَكَرُوا مَكْرًا وَمَكَرْنَا مَكْرًا وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ[11]; “And they planned a plan, and We (too) planned a plan while they did not perceive.” This is how God, by His permission, guides the believers toward the truth concerning what they disagreed about; as He has said: ﴿فَهَدَى اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لِمَا اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ مِنَ الْحَقِّ بِإِذْنِهِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ[12]; “So God, by His permission, guided the believers to the truth concerning what they disagreed about, and God guides whomever He wills to the straight path.” This is a wise measure taken by the preparer of the ground for the advent of the Mahdi, peace be upon him, so that there will be no hardship in religion for those who desire to help the Mahdi, peace be upon him, and are afraid of turmoil, and the path of making preparations for the advent of the Mahdi, peace be upon him, will not be narrow for them, and the share of those who make claims wihtout right will be humiliation in the life of the world and severe punishment in the Hereafter. Based on this, it can be said that all those who now consider themselves promised ones and invite Muslims toward themselves with this claim are liars and dajjals, and there is no truthful one among them, and if there is a truthful one, he is among those who make no claims.

May God grant all Muslims success in knowing the truth with certainty and then patience upon it; because certainty and patience pave the way for the advent of the Imams among them; as God has said: ﴿وَجَعَلْنَا مِنْهُمْ أَئِمَّةً يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا لَمَّا صَبَرُوا ۖ وَكَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يُوقِنُونَ[13]; “And We appointed from among them Imams who guide by Our command when they endured patiently and were certain of Our signs,” and it is clear that the Mahdi, peace be upon him, is one of the greatest Imams. Praise be to God Who guided us to this, and His peace and mercy be upon Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani, who became the mediator of this guidance.
