Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani has mentioned in his book Return to Islam many issues that I do not find any of the scholars discussing or even noticing! How is it possible that all these scholars have not understood these issues, and only Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani has understood them?!!
Tell us first how it is impossible, then we will tell you how it is possible! If by “these scholars,” you mean the scholars of this time, it is not impossible that they are ignorant of some of the beliefs and rulings of Islam, except for one of them; since what is impossible is that all the people of a time gather on ignorance; because the Prophet said: «لَا تَجْتَمِعُ أُمَّتِي عَلَى ضَلَالَةٍ»[1]; “My nation will not gather on misguidance.” Therefore, if there is one man among them who does not agree with them in their ignorance, then they have not gathered on it. There have been periods in history when there was only one believer among people; as Allah Almighty has said: ﴿إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ كَانَ أُمَّةً﴾[2]; “Indeed, Ibrahim was a nation,” which means: «كَانَ مُؤْمِنًا وَحْدَهُ وَالنَّاسُ كُلُّهُمْ كُفَّارٌ»; “He was the only believer, and people were all disbelievers”; narrated from ibn Abbas, Mujahid, and Abu Ja‘far al-Baqir[3]. It has been narrated from Musa ibn Ja‘far that he said: «أَمَا واللَّهِ لَقَدْ كَانَتِ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا إِلَّا وَاحِدٌ يَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ، وَلَوْ كَانَ مَعَهُ غَيْرُهُ لَأَضَافَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ حَيْثُ يَقُولُ: ﴿إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ كَانَ أُمَّةً قَانِتًا لِلَّهِ حَنِيفًا وَلَمْ يَكُ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ﴾[4]، فَغَبَرَ بِذَلِكَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ، ثُمَّ إِنَّ اللَّهَ آنَسَهُ بِإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ، فَصَارُوا ثَلَاثَةً، أَمَا وَاللَّهِ إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ لَقَلِيلٌ»[5]; “By Allah, there was once only one person in the entire world who worshipped Allah, and if there had been anyone else with him, Allah would have mentioned him as well, where He has said: ‘Indeed, Ibrahim was a nation obedient to Allah, true in faith, and he was not of the polytheists.’ So, he remained alone for as long as Allah willed. Then Allah provided him comfort with Isma‘il and Ishaq, so they became three. By Allah, believers are truly few.” Therefore, it is not far-fetched that there is only one man in this time as well who knows Islam as it should be known; because it is the end time, and it appears from narrations that it is the worst of times and worse than the time of Ibrahim
. However, if by “these scholars,” you mean the scholars of the Ummah from the early and later generations of Muslims, we do not concede that they were ignorant of what His Eminence Mansoor (may Allah Almighty support him) has mentioned in the book Return to Islam. Have you counted all of them and all of their words to know that none of them have understood that?! What are the issues that you claim they have not understood and only His Eminence Mansoor (may Allah Almighty support him) has understood?! Because in what this great scholar has said, we do not find anything that has not been said by someone from the predecessors; as his statement that the Ahl al-Bayt are more entitled to the caliphate than others has been said by a great number of the Sahabah, the Tabi‘un, and the followers of the Tabi‘un, some of whom we have mentioned in the footnotes of the book Return to Islam, and you may refer to it; and his statement that it is not permissible to imitate anyone other than an infallible person has been said by a great number of the Sahabah, the Tabi‘un, and the followers of the Tabi‘un, some of whom we have mentioned in our response to critique 1, and you may refer to it; and his statement that ahad reports do not have authority has been said by many scholars in the early centuries; as Abu Hanifa (d. 150 AH), whom half of the Muslims imitate, has called ahad reports «رِيح»; “wind” and «خُرَافَةً»; “myth”, and said: «حُكَّهُ بِذَنَبِ خِنْزِيرٍ»; “It should be written with a pig’s tail,”[6] and Sharif al-Murtada (d. 436 AH), who is one of the pillars of the Shias, has said: «إِنَّ أَصْحَابَنَا كُلَّهُمْ، سَلَفَهُمْ وَخَلَفَهُمْ، وَمُتَقَدِّمَهُمْ وَمُتَأَخِّرَهُمْ، يَمْنَعُونَ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ بِأَخْبَارِ الْآحَادِ»[7]; “All of our companions, from the early and later generations, from the past and the present, have prohibited acting upon ahad reports,” and ibn Idris al-Hilli (d. 598 AH) has said: «فَهَلْ هَدَمَ الْإِسْلَامَ إِلَّا هِيَ؟! يَعْنِي أَخْبَارَ الْآحَادِ»[8]; “What has destroyed Islam except for it?! Meaning ahad reports”; and his statement that the only reason for the Mahdi’s non-advent is his fear for his life has been said by the early leading figures of the Imamiyyah; as Abu Ja‘far al-Tusi (d. 460 AH) has said: «لَا عِلَّةَ تَمْنَعُ مِنْ ظُهُورِهِ إِلَّا خَوْفُهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ مِنَ الْقَتْلِ»[9]; “There is no reason that prevents his advent except his fear for his life from being killed”; and his statement that absolute guardianship of the Islamic jurist is not proven has been said by all the Shias except a few of the later ones who have no standing in knowledge. The same applies to the rest of his pure statements in the book Return to Islam; since there is nothing in them except that it is grounded in the Quran and the Sunnah, has proof from the intellect, and has been expressed by someone from the righteous predecessors.
Yes, much of what he has said has been hidden from those who are claimed to be scholars in this time, such that they deny it, find it strange, and think that it is something new. This is only because they are distant from the age of the Quran and the Sunnah, and intermediaries have become numerous between them, ﴿فَعَمِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الْأَنْبَاءُ﴾[10]; “so the news is obscured to them.” They forgot the days of Allah, ﴿اتَّخَذُوا أَحْبَارَهُمْ وَرُهْبَانَهُمْ أَرْبَابًا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ﴾[11]; “took their scholars and monks as gods besides Allah,” devoted themselves to books and newly invented sects that Satan made fair-seeming to them, ﴿وَاتَّبَعُوا أَمْرَ كُلِّ جَبَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ﴾[12]; “and followed the order of every rebellious tyrant,” ﴿حَتَّى نَسُوا الذِّكْرَ وَكَانُوا قَوْمًا بُورًا﴾[13]; “until they forgot the Remembrance and became a people devoid of good.” Then Allah, by His grace and mercy, sent this righteous servant to remind them of the pure religion that they had forgotten, to bring them back to the original Islam from which they are distant, to renew for them the true beliefs that had become old, to revive for them the correct rulings that had died out, and to open for them the blocked path to Allah’s caliph on Earth. Based on this, His Eminence Mansoor (may Allah Almighty support him) is only a reminder, not a bringer of innovation in the religion. And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
