Critique & Response

According to our research, “Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani” is a pseudonym!

Although we do not know your identity and think that it is very likely that you use a pseudonym yourself, nor do we know with what motive, based on what qualification, and by relying on what news sources your alleged research has been done, we suggest that you do not put too much trust in these discoveries of yours and always allow for the possibilities of errors in them, lest you find yourself in Turkestan instead of Mecca; as stated in the Persian proverb: «ترسم نرسي به كعبه اي اعرابي/ كين ره كه تو مي‌روي به تركستان است» i.e., “I fear, O Bedouin, you will not reach the Kaaba, for the road you have taken leads but to Turkestan!”

However, it is not impossible for your guess to be true; because firstly, the use of a pseudonym is common among free individuals who fight against tyrants and oppressors, and have few supporters and many enemies, and it is not considered unusual or unexpected; secondly, There are many people in the world who have two names, and are known by one of them and not known by the other. Rather, it has been narrated from the Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him and his family, that he said: «لِي خَمْسَةُ أَسْمَاءٍ: أَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، وَأَنَا أَحْمَدُ، وَأَنَا الْمَاحِي الَّذِي يَمْحُو اللَّهُ بِيَ الْكُفْرَ، وَأَنَا الْحَاشِرُ الَّذِي يُحْشَرُ النَّاسُ عَلَى قَدَمِي، وَأَنَا الْعَاقِبُ»[1]; “I have five names: I am Muhammad, and I am Ahmad, and I am al-Mahi through whom God will eliminate disbelief, and I am al-Hashir who will be the first to be resurrected, people will be resurrected after me, and I am al-Aqib (i.e., there will be no Prophet after me),” and Ahmad ibn Hanbal (d. 241 AH) has said: “We have heard that six of the Prophets have two names in the Quran: Muhammad: Ahmad, Ibrahim: Ibraham, Ya‘qub: Isra’il, Yunus: Dhu’l-Nun, Iliyas: Ilyasin, and Isa: Masih,”[2] and ibn Qutaybah (d. 276 AH) has said: “A man may have two names, and he may have two nicknames, and he may have a name and a description; so he is called by his description if it becomes more prevalent, and his name is left. This is Idris, whose name in the Torah is Akhnukh, and Ya‘qub, whose name is Isra’il, and Isa, who is called Masih,”[3] and it Has been narrated from Abu Jabirah ibn al-Dahhak that he said: “The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him and his family, came to us, and there was not a single man among us unless he had two names,”[4] and al-Tabari (d. 310 AH) has said: “If someone says: ‘Genealogists attribute Ibrahim to “Terah”, so how can “Azar” be his name when he is known by the name “Terah”?’ He is told: ‘It is not impossible for him to have two names, as many people in our time do, and this was the case in the past for many of them.’”[5] Rather, it has been narrated from Ali, peace be upon him, that in describing the Mahdi as well, he said: «لَهُ اسْمَانِ: اسْمٌ يَخْفَى وَاسْمٌ يَعْلِنُ، فَأَمَّا الَّذِي يَخْفَى فَأَحْمَدُ، وَأَمَّا الَّذِي يَعْلِنُ فَمُحَمَّدٌ»[6]; “He has two names: one that is hidden and one that is revealed. As for the one that is hidden, it is Ahmad, and as for the one that is revealed, it is Muhammad”; thirdly, adopting honorable titles is a common practice among Muslim religious leaders and scholars, to the extent that it is considered an Islamic tradition, and often it is attributed to them by their companions and admirers in view of their good traits and qualities, and even get more popularity than their actual names; as for example, the title “al-Mustafa” for the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him and his family, was of this kind, the title “Ahmad,” by which he was foretold in the Bible was of this kind, the title “As-Siddiq” for Abu Bakr, the title “Al-Farooq” for Umar, the title “Dhul-Nurayn” for Uthman, and the title “Al-Murtada” for Ali were of this kind, and Ali had another title which is said to have been given to him by his mother, but was not widely known by it; as he said pointing to it: «أنا الذي سمّتني أمّي حَيدرة/ ضرغام آجام وليث قسورة» i.e., “I am the one whom my mother named Haydar, which means a bush tiger and a fierce lion.” Similarly, the rest of the Imams from the Ahl al-Bayt were also given various titles, such as “al-Baqir”, “al-Sadiq”, “al-Kazim”, and “al-Rida”, that are known by them more than they are known by their names, even the Mahdi, toward whom Mansoor invites, has another name as well, and “the Mahdi” is his title and fame. Moreover, God Almighty has changed the names of some of His chosen friends after selecting them; as mentioned in the Torah that He said to Ibrahim, peace be upon him, whose name was Abram: “No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations,”[7] and said to him: “Your wife Sarai shall no longer be called Sarai, but her name shall be Sarah,”[8] and said to Ya‘qub, peace be upon him: “Your name is Ya‘qub; no longer shall your name be called Ya‘qub, but Isra’il shall be your name. So He called his name Isra’il.”[9] Rather, He informed of it as his practice and said to His enemies: “The Lord God will put you to death, but His servants He will call by another name.”[10]. Considering these evidences, it is plausible that your speculation is correct; meaning that “Mansoor” could be a title and fame for the author of the book Return to Islam and preparer of the ground for the Mahdi’s advent, but it is clearly not a matter of significance that has occupied your mind and the minds of those like you who lack foresight, and serve as a flimsy excuse for their propaganda against this great and oppressed scholar. Undoubtedly, what matters to the wise is his Islamic and reformist ideas and teachings alone, and his name, title, and fame are not determining elements; because these ideas and teachings do not depend on his name, title, and fame so that they change with them, but rather, on the Book of God, the mutawatir Sunnah of His Prophet, and the definite rulings of the intellect, which remain constant in every situation and can be followed. Based on this, you can imagine that the name of Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani is Muhammad, or Ali, or Umar, or Sa‘id, or Hashim, or Ja‘far, or Qasim, or Qanbar, or Muhammad Ali, or Muhammad Ja‘far, or Abdullah, or something else like that; because regardless of whatever name he has, he is the author of the book Return to Islam and the leader of a blessed movement that has emerged, against the taste of hypocrites and those with diseased hearts, in order to establish the pure and perfect Islam in the world and realize the Mahdi’s government, and he will continue his movement despite all hostilities and provocations until he reaches his highest and most sacred goal, Insha’Allah, ﴿وَالْعَاقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ[11]; “and the (good) end belongs to the pious.”
