Translation of the letter:

Abd al-Shukur ibn Zulmi al-Wardaki informed us, he said: I had a friend from Bamyan who was looking for treasure, so he invited me to do the same on the condition that I would have half of it, so I said: “I should ask Mansoor.” Then I wrote to him and asked him about that, so he wrote to me in his handwriting: “None but a fool looks for treasure, and whoever finds it must pay the Khums of it; because it is of booty.”

Translation of the letter:

Abdullah ibn Habib al-Tabari informed us, he said: I wrote to Mansoor and asked him about things in which Khums is obligatory, so he wrote to me in his handwriting: “Know that -may God have mercy on you- whatever God provides for you from where you do not expect, there is Khums in it, such as booty, treasure, mine, a jewel that you take out of the sea, a gift, a prize, a huge profit that is more than your living expenses, an inheritance that you do not expect from a distant (relative), and the money that you hoard, then you neither eat from it nor spend it in the way of God, whenever a year passes on it, so the Khums of it is obligatory for you that you must give it out to God’s Caliph on the earth and to the orphans, the needy, and the wayfarers from the family of Hashim if you believe in God and what He sent down to His servant on the day of separation -the day when the two armies met (in battle)-, and God has power over all things!”
