What is Allamah Mansoor Hashemi Khorasani's opinion about the Arbaeen Hosseini demonstration, which has been participated with more enthusiasm in recent years?

Answer to question: 2 Date: 2015-11-23

If the intention of “Arbaeen Hosseini demonstration” is the going of a group to pilgrimage the grave of Hussein bin Ali on the twentieth day of Safar, there is no problem, provided that it should not be attended with invented-heresies such as self-beating with dagger, chain, chest-beating and carrying the cross, as well as guilt such as lying to His excellency and the mixing of non-mahram men and women with each other, and should not help the oppressive sovereignty, which sometimes seeks to use of such the works in their interest.

Is this possible you explain about the occasion of Arbaeen? Did the caravan of His Excellency Zainab and Imam Sajjad, in return to Medina from Sham in Arbaeen, passed the Karbala?

Thanks

“Arbaeen” meaning fortieth in the Shia term applies to the twentieth day of Safar, which is the fortieth day after Ashura - the day of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his households and companions in Karbala-. It is known that on this day from the year 61 AH, Jabir ibn Abdullah Ansari, the great companion of the God’s messenger (PBUH), came to pilgrimage the graves of the martyrs, and has established the tradition of their pilgrimage on this day[1], and a narration has also come that, on this day, the caravan of Karbala’s survivors, in returned to Medina from Sham, came to pilgrimage their graves[2], but such an event is not approved, and it is not mentioned in the famous narrations[3]. Of course, the coming of Jabir to pilgrimage the graves of the martyrs on the fortieth day was not due to a characteristic of this day; since a characteristic, for the fortieth day after the death of someone, is not approved, but it happened on this day accidentally, and later, it was taken as tradition by the Shia according to a narration of the Ahl ul-Bayt[4] and has been flourished in recent years.

It is certain that pilgrimaging the grave of Imam Hussein (AS) and his households and companions is good in every day, and the fortieth day is not an exception to this rule, provided that it should be cleaned from invented-heresies, guilt and helping the oppressors[5].
