I said: “His Excellency is the qiblah of which creatures and the deputy of which Imam that he does not need the cooperation of Muslims?! And who has appointed these knowledgeable scholars and eminent maraji‘ that I am clearly not one of them?!” Then His Excellency stood up to leave out of irritation, in the sense that he was no longer willing to listen to my words, and I stood up with him as well. Then, as a habit, he extended his hand toward me so that I would kiss it and take my leave, but I lowered his hand, just shook hands with him, and left him while he was angry with me that why I did not kiss his hand! This is the situation that is evident among many Muslim scholars, and there are worse situations than this one among them, but this is not the place to mention them. It is clear that with the existence of such morale in them, there is no hope for them to know the truth, and their followers, too, enter darkness after them. As when Sayyid Jamal al-Din (d. 1314 AH) wrote letters to some Muslim scholars and invited them to be vigilant against disbelievers and stand against colonialism, many of them did not respond to him; because they considered themselves more aware than him about what to do and what not to do and believed that their dignity was greater than letting an unknown and nameless man decide for them![1] Even Mirza Hasan al-Shirazi (d. 1312 AH), who initially accepted his invitation and issued a fatwa prohibiting tobacco, soon regretted what he did; because he thought that Sayyid Jamal al-Din deceived him![2] This is while people of knowledge, due to their greater influence on society, are in greater need of knowing the truth, and if they do not know the truth, they will incur losses and cause losses more, and it is clear that their not knowing it is not impossible;
